What’s Happening in the Area – heading into June

It’s been quite a month with restrictions lifting further. Unbelievably we’re heading into June. Where is the year going? It’s the start of the half-term holiday and bank holiday weekend; read on to find out what’s happening…

The Nonsuch Town & Country Show

Epsom Spring Bank Holiday Taste Of The World Market

The ever popular Taste of the World market is at Epsom as usual today (Friday 28th, May), but there’s a bonus Spring Bank Holiday market on Monday, May 31st – 9.30am-3.30pm.  Get down there for a great selection of food and take away stalls from around the world.

The Roald Dahl Children’s Camp – Epsom 

The Upper Norwood Library Hub is coming to Stoneleigh; the Methodist Church Centre (KT19 0RT) to be precise.

Running Tuesday, 1st June 9.30am to Friday 4th June 4.30pm this exciting camp  (book a day or the full week) – led by West End professionals – will give children the opportunity to discover and learn about children’s author Roald Dahl. Children will rehearse and perform excerpts from Dahl’s many famous stories including a musical number from the hit West End Musical, Matilda.

A small audience of family members and friends will be invited to watch the final performance at 4pm on Friday June 4th. Book tickets here.

Covid Recovery Event

St Martin’s Church in Epsom is holding a Covid recovery event for two weeks from Sunday 13th June until Sunday 27th June.

It is a time for people to reflect on the past year and to take some time out to think and restore their feelings and emotions in the  peaceful surroundings of the church (which will be open from 9am-5pm). Additionally, there will be a piano recital on Friday 18th & 25th June at 12.30pm.

French Conversation Group at Yo Sarnie

 

For like minded people wanting to practice their French and share their passion about France, Pardon Your French is running  French conversation classes the first Friday of the month starting 4th June. They’ll be taking place at Yo Sarnie from 10am – 11am.

Music in the Market Place – MGS04 Epsom and Ewell Arts 

There might not be a festival this year but MGSO4 Epsom and Ewell Arts are excited to be bringing the music back to Epsom town centre. Starting on Sunday, 6th June in Epsom Marketplace and then every Friday 5 – 7pm/Sunday 12 – 2.30pm for three months there’ll be an eclectic line up of talented, professional performers, covering many genres of music.

Emily Davison Project – statue unveiling 

The Emily Davison Memorial in Epsom, which honours the suffragette and commemorates her role in securing women the vote, is being unveiled on Tuesday, 8th June. Selkie Pilates & Fitness

Selkie Pilates and Fitness runs a variety of mum, baby and pregnancy classes which are starting soon.

  • Pregnancy Pilates – face-to-face weekly classes start on Monday, 7th June (7-8pm) at Epsom Methodist Church and run for six weeks
  • Baby Pilates – face-to-face classes start Wednesday, 9th June (10-11am) at Epsom Methodist Church and run for six weeks.
  • There’s are also online pregnancy pilates classes which also start Wednesday, 9th June (7.30pm ) and run for six weeks.

Half-term 

Check out last week’s roundup post for some half-term inspiration. Additionally, Ambition School Of Dance, a fun and friendly dance school based in Epsom, is running a series of workshops with different themes for a variety of age groups.

Keep Epsom and Ewell Tidy  – Borough Litter Pick Day

 

Monday, May 31st is Borough Litter Pick Day across Epsom and Ewell. You can litter pick whenever and wherever you want to on the Monday and then bring your hauls to one of the pre-appointed ‘collection locations’ on the day any time from 5.30pm. Locations are TBC so keep an eye out for updates here.

You can also opt to join a specific ‘Group Pick’ (see below).

Group Litter Picks

There are going to be three ‘Group Pick’ sites where volunteers can turn up to tackle a ‘hotspot’ together.

The Three Musketeers Online production – Epsom Playhouse

The classic tale is coming to the stage and being live streamed to your home for Tuesday 15th June – Saturday 20th June 2021. This comical adaptation is written by Sydney Stevenson and stars Robert Lindsay.
