Hello lovely Epsom and Ewell Families,

I hope that you have had a fantastic two weeks in Epsom and Ewell, and surrounds. We had a great time at the Go Epsom and Epsom and Ewell Borough Council’s Light Switch On in the marketplace this week.

It was such a fantastic evening of festivity in the area and lovely to see the performances on the Epsom and Ewell Families stage.

I have also spent a fair amount of time at Fitness Space in Epsom over the last fortnight – you can read about it in my blog.

If you are looking for Christmas (or non-Christmas related activities) in the local area, there is a lot happening.  You will also find some inspiration on how to create memories over the festive season with your family here.

Sunday 1st December

If you fancy a crisp Surrey Walk, there is one taking place in Dorking. Starting at St Martin’s Church (RH4 1DW) then on to Denbies and to the Polesden Lacey’s Christmas Artisan Market or book to see Father Christmas there.

Meet Santa, in his Grotto, at Hobbledown until the 24th December.

There is a Christmas Market on Tolworth Broadway. An opportunity to buy fresh produce, hot food, and gifts from local artisans. There will also be live music and face-painting.

You can skate at Hampton Court Palace until the 5th January 2020. What an exciting opportunity!

Chessington Garden Centre has Santa’s Christmas Wonderland, until the 24th December. Chessington Garden Centre is one of the most popular places to visit Santa, locally.

St Nicholas Centre, in Sutton, has an Ice Rink until the middle of January.

Wallace Fields Infant School has their Winter Wonderland fair today from 1.00pm.

The Kingston Ancient Market is turning on the festive cheer as it becomes Kingston’s Christmas Market.

Catch a snow train to Meet Santa at the Crystal Grotto at Painshill.

The popular local charity event – Chessington Road Lights – will be turned on at 6.00pm.

Tuesday 3rd December

Bambinos and Me will be holding an Inter-Generational Yoga Class at Linden House Care Home. The class is a free taster, for all ages. Booking is essential.

The Metropolitan Police Choir will be performing at St Barnabas Church. The performance is in aid of Epsom-based mental health charity Love Me Love My Mind. The concert is free but donations to the charity will be welcomed on the night. Reserve you free ticket here.

Jazz on the Mezz is at Leatherhead Theatre on the 3rd December.

Wednesday 4th December

The Epsom and Ewell Veterans Community Hub are inviting ex-service personnel and their families to a Christmas celebration.

Thursday 5th December

If you feel like popping over to Morden Hall Park, it’s just up the road, they have a Biscuit and Cupcake Decorating Workshop from the 5th December.

Focus Surrey – a charity supporting children with autism – will be holding a Charity Quiz Night.

Friday 6th December

Make your Own Wreath at Ashtead Garden Centre.

The Hive, in Leatherhead, has a Christmas Fair from 4.00pm.

Cheam Village’s Christmas 2019 event is taking place from 4.00pm.

You can watch a live screening of the Broadway musical 42nd Street at Leatherhead Theatre.

Saturday 7th December

Have breakfast with Santa at Ye Olde Red Lion.

Or meet Santa in his cosy grotto at Ashtead Park, and help him raise money for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. Tickets cost £6 per child – accompanying adults go free. Get your tickets in advance, at the tills.

A bit further ‘up the road’ is the Deen City Farm Santa’s Grotto. We used to love Deen City Farm when we lived in Raynes Park.

Fennies Nursery are hosting an Epsom Winter Wonderland from 11.00am to 1.00pm.

Cuddington Croft have their Christmas Fair from 11.00am.

The Carshalton Frost Fair is returning to the memorial gardens near Honeywood Museum.

You can book Santa’s Christmas Countdown, from the 7th December, at Epsom Playhouse.

The Sea Scouts have a Christmas Craft Fair and Tree Sale. Tree sale starts from 9.00am. Admission is free.

The popular Santa Fun Run is happening again at Painshill Park on Saturday 7th December.

Penny Black in Leatherhead has a Children’s Outdoor Cinema. There are screenings of Polar Express, The Grinch and Home Alone.

* Book Now * The Ewell Grove Players are getting ready for another pantomime performance at Bourne Hall. Book tickets for Robin Hood Prince of Cheese.

Sing Christmas Carols by Candlelight in Wimbledon Village from 5.00pm.

There is a Christmas Cabaret and Dinner at St Barnabas Church.

Sunday 8th December

The Surrey Vegan Festival will be returning to Epsom, after their recent success at their first Epsom festival.

The Character Christmas Party will take place opposite Wyevale Garden Centre in Lower Morden Lane, they will be collecting for the following charities: St Raphael Hospice, Morden Little League, Merton and Morden Guild, One Step at a Time, Mayors Charity Trust, and other local charities.

Monday 9th December

There are a few after school events taking place at Old Moat starting from the 9th December. Guess the Name of the Christmas Polar Bear. You can do Festive Biscuit Decorating from the 16th December. There is Festive Decoration Painting on the 17th and 19th December.

Suzannah Lipscomb will be talking about The Nonsuch Queens: Henry VIII’s Last Wives in Worcester Park. The evening is in aid of Sutton Night Watch – a homeless charity.

Tuesday 10th December

The popular Gift Market will be returning to Bourne Hall this week. An opportunity to support local stallholders, whilst doing some Christmas shopping.

If you would like to learn more about travelling safely with your baby, BusyLizzy Epsom & Leatherhead are doing a Travel Safe workshop at Jess and The Beanstalk.

There is a live screening of the ballet performance of Coppélia at Leatherhead Theatre.

Friday 13th December

Watch Peter Pan on Ice at Guildford Spectrum.

Saturday 14th December

Get comfortable at the Fox and Hounds, in Tadworth, for a Christmas film. There are two films being shown on the day for £5 per film – which includes a fruit shoot and popcorn.

Mother Christmas will be singing and storytelling at Claremont Landscape Gardens, from 10.30am.

Book to see Epsom Playhouse’s 2019 pantomime Peter Pan – from the 14th December to the 5th January.

Grow Cook Enjoy have a Christmas baking workshop on the 14th December and a gingerbread houses workshop on the 21st December.

Sutton’s Empire Cinema is screening The Polar Express from 4.00pm. Dress in pyjamas, enjoy hot chocolate and treats.

Sunday 15th December

There will be a Christmas Carol service at St Mary’s Church at 5.30pm.

For Your Diary

Rugrats Stay and Play Cafe have a Christmas Tea Party, with a visit from Santa, on the 17th December from 12.30pm.

There is a Christmas Carols around the Campfire in Redhill on the 17th December.

*Book Now * Giggles Soft Play has a Christmas Party from 10.00am – 12.00pm on the 20th December. £12.50 per child.

Moo Music also has a Christmas Party on Friday 20th December. Tickets are limited, so book asap.

All are welcome to attend the annual Christmas Memorial Service – for those who like to remember lost loved ones as Christmas approaches. Friday 20th December at 11.00am at Epsom Cemetery Chapel. The service is not a traditional religious service, though there will be some familiar Christmas music.

The new place to be in Epsom, PT Depot, are hosting a Games Night on the 20th December from 7.00pm. Spaces are limited, so booking is essential.

On Saturday 21st December the Epsom Choral Society will be giving its annual Christmas Concert at St Martin’s Church in Epsom. A mix of traditional carols with new pieces, and accompanied by a quintet from London Metropolitan Brass.
