As we head into November it really feels like the Christmas countdown is on! We’ve got all the details of the latest announced Christmas events (check back on October’s Lowdown and Kat’s post for previous ones) as well as everything else that’s happening in and around the area this month.

Warm Wednesdays at Epsom Methodist Church

Warm Wednesdays at Epsom Methodist Church return, starting on Wednesday, November 1st (running until March 13th). The initiative was set up last year during the cost of living crisis and is here again to help out the many in our community still struggling.

Age Concern Epsom & Ewell Quiz Night 

Head down to The Conservative Club, Epsom for a fabulous Quiz Night to support Age Concern Epsom & Ewell on Friday, 3rd November (7pm onwards).

Not a whiz with a quiz? It really doesn’t matter as their wonderful quizmaster, Eber Kington will provide a highly entertaining evening pitched for all to enjoy.

There will be slices of pizza, nibbles and a drink all tied in with your ticket price.

New Youth Club – The Edge Project 

Friday, 3rd November – NEAT LTD is running a 30-week program helping get children off the streets and into sport every Friday night (5.30pm-7.15pm) on the Waters Edge Estate. It’s for boys and girls aged 11-16, and everyone is welcome! £1 entry.

Also at the Edge Youth Centre are the Family Fun sessions on Wednesdays (3.30pm-5pm) for children aged 0-11. It’s £1 per family. Full details above.

Artisan Market

This popular market usually held in The Grove in Ewell Village will be held in Bourne Hall on Saturday, 4th November.

A showcase for local businesses, products and producers, you’ll be treated to an array of goods including: wooden hand crafted gifts and toys, art, decor and vintage items; homewares, honey and beeswax products, handmade jewellery, fresh pastries and artisan breads; speciality coffee, award-winning preserves, herbs and spices; ladies clothing and accessories; handmade soap, body butters and vegan skincare products, bamboo eco-friendly products and more!

Love Without Labels – LGBTQ+ Celebration and Wellbeing Day

End Stigma Surrey is holding its ‘Love without Labels’ event at Bourne Hall on Saturday, 4th November (2-5pm) to celebrate and support LGBTQ+ people in the community and raise awareness about mental wellbeing. The wonderful Surrey Rainbow choir will be performing and Outline Surrey will be there alongside music, art, hot food, a bar and much more. Everyone is welcome!

Epsom Fireworks Display & Funfair 

Surrey’s biggest Fireworks Display plus Fun Fair at Hook Road Arena takes place on Saturday, 4th November gates open at 5.30pm. For booking go here: 

Merland Rise Church – Movie Night 

Head down to Merland Rise Church for a movie night on Saturday, 4th November where they’ll be showing the Jesus Revolution. The film is FREE to watch but if you fancy dinner and refreshments beforehand, the cafe will be open from 6pm, serving fresh pizza and other goodies. Visit to book your space.

Charity Dance-A-Thon 

Join the O’Connor Dance Academy at their Epsom studio on Sunday, 5th November (1pm-5pm) for four hours of dancing to raise money for dance education in Kenya. Miss Rosy owns a wonderful charity (Nova Grace Productions) that helps to support this.

Jazz, contemporary, commercial and choreography with guest teachers! This event is for all abilities and is open to all (ages 9-19). More details above and on their Facebook page.

Kids Biscuit Workshop at Epsom Social 

Visit Epsom Social on Sunday, 5th November (3pm-4.30pm – sessions will run every 30 minutes)  for a biscuit decorating workshop. Bring your little ones to decorate their very own colourful firework biscuit, and best of all, this workshop is completely FREE!

Month of Remembrance Walk at Langley Vale Wood

On this Month of Remembrance walk, on Sunday, 5th November, discover the wonders of Langley Vale Wood, the Woodland Trusts First World War Centenary Wood, with their trusted guided walk leaders. Throughout this walk you will explore the site, the First World War art installations and hear how the Woodland Trust has transformed arable land into a haven for wildlife and people and created a space for reflection to remember those lost in the First World War.

Welcome Warm Spaces @ King’s Church Epsom 

King’s Church Epsom will be opening its doors to provide a warm space for anyone in need this winter. Every Monday from the 6th of November to the 26th of February from 4-6pm (except Christmas Day and New Years Day), they’ll be providing a space to keep warm with free hot meals, refreshments and a place for children to play or do homework.

Curry Night Fundraiser 

Head down to Tamarind Spice, West Ewell on Tuesday, 7th November (from 7pm) for great food and to support the work Good Company does to help people in our local community who are struggling financially.

Opening of Garden of Remembrance at Bourne Hall  

On Tuesday, 8th November at 11am, the Garden of Remembrance in Bourne Hall Park will be opened by the Mayor of Epsom and Ewell and local schoolchildren to honour and remember all those who died in the service of their country.

Schools will be performing songs and poems and placing poppy crosses to remember the loss of servicemen and women in all conflicts.

After this ceremony, the public can place their own crosses and tokens of remembrance.

One Night In Dublin 2023 @ Epsom Playhouse 

The ultimate Irish tribute show heads to Epsom Playhouse on Wednesday, 8th November (starts 7.30pm). For nearly 15 years Middi and his legendary ‘Wild Murphys’ have been playing Irish music to the masses and now they’re bringing Murphys Pub to The Epsom Playhouse.

Join in the craic as this award-winning seven piece Irish tribute band covers songs by the Pogues, The Dubliners, The Saw Doctors, Daniel O’ Donnel, Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, Van Morrison and many more, in their own unique and upbeat style.

Epsom & Ewell Hub Jobs Fair 

The Epsom & Ewell Hub offers friendly support and advice to residents on all aspects of job searching as well as helping to overcome barriers to employment. On Thursday, November 9th (10am-12pm), they are holding a Jobs, Careers, Volunteering & Work Experience Fair where they’ll match jobseekers with companies, associations and charities offering jobs, volunteering and work experience.

Yoga story time at Epsom library

Llamaste is at Epsom library and is looking forward to yoga story time and craft for pre-school children on Friday, 10th November at 10.00am.

World on Fire: Discover WW2 at Bourne Hall Museum Kids Club

World War II was the deadliest war in history, involving more than 30 countries. Sparked by the 1939 Nazi Invasion of Poland, the war dragged on for six bloody years until the Allies defeated the Axis powers of Nazi Germany, Japan and Italy in 1945.

Discover how the war began and how the blitz that followed affected people in their everyday lives from travel to joining one of the emergency services and learn about the dangerous job of bomb disposal. Find out how and why children and older people where evacuated, why food was rationed and what this meant for families and how people would join queues outside a shop just discover what people were queuing to buy!

Ukraine Music Evening for Epsom & Ewell Refugee Network

Epsom Methodist Church will be hosting an Ukraine Music Evening for Epsom & Ewell Refugee Network on Saturday, 11th November at 6pm. Ukrainian musicians, including pianists, violinists and singers will be playing. Everybody is welcome to this free event – bring finger food to share! Full details above.

Remembrance Ceremony at Market Place, Epsom



Members of the public are invited to join the Mayor and the Royal British Legion, Armed Forces and Veterans for a short ceremony at the Clock Tower in the Market Place, Epsom on Saturday, 11th November. This will be followed by a two-minute silence at 11am.

Procession from Army Reserve Centre to St Mary’s Church, Ewell

On Sunday, 12th November at 9.30am the Mayor will lay two wreaths at the War Memorial in Ashley Road, Epsom. At 10.30am, the Remembrance Day procession will take place beginning at the Army Reserve Centre at Welbeck Close and ending at St Mary’s Church in Ewell. This will be followed by an Act of Remembrance service, wreath laying and a church service. At 10:45am the Deputy Mayor will attend a Remembrance Day service at St Martin of Tours Church, Epsom. 

The Central Band of The Royal British Legion at Epsom Playhouse 

The central band of the Royal British Legion is back at the Playhouse for their highly anticipated Remembrance Sunday concert on the 12th November (3pm).

This annual event honours the brave sacrifices made by servicemen and women, bringing the community together in a poignant and moving tribute. The central band of the Royal British Legion is renowned for their exceptional musicianship and powerful performances.

Young Mums Coffee Group 

Home Start Epsom, Ewell and Banstead is holding a Young Mums Coffee Group on Wednesday, 15th November (1pm-3.00pm) at the Epsom Family Centre. Aimed at mums aged 23 under, it’s a chance to meet like-minded mums for a coffee and chat whilst little ones play.

Mayfield Lavender is about to mark the first birthday of their Gift Shop and Glasshouse Café in Epsom.  On Friday 17th November there will be tasters and demos of some of their lovely Mayfield Lavender products, plus special giveaways.

Epsom Film Club 

The first Epsom Film Club takes place at Epsom Methodist Church, Ashley Road, KT18 5AQ on Saturday, 18th November (starting at 7pm).

This month’s film is The Queen of Katwe, the true story of a young woman from the slums of Nairobi who discovers she has a talent for chess. We follow her journey as she struggles against the disadvantages of poverty to follow her dream of becoming a chess master.

The space will remain open afterwards for those who want to remain and discuss the film.

This is a free event, but donations for refreshments are welcomed.

Christ Church Christmas Fair 

Head down to the Christ Church Christmas Fair on Saturday, 18th November (10am-2pm) for fun, food, festivities and chance to pick up some Christmas gifts. Free entry.

ATC Movie Night 

Aerial Tumbling Club (ATC) will be screening “Matilda the Musical” on the big projector at Epsom Downs Primary School on Saturday, 18th November. Non-members are welcome and children can attend in PJs and bring sleeping bags/pillows etc with them.

Dylan Strong Foundation – Christmas Market  

Start your Christmas shopping early at the Dylan Strong Foundation Christmas market on Saturday, November 18th (6pm-9pm) and help raise funds for children with cancer. There’ll be shopping stalls from beautiful local shops so you can buy your loved ones something unique.

Sing-along Film – Matilda the Musical

On Saturday, 18th November (2pm) at The Horton, get ready to sing-along during the screening of this brand new take on the Tony and Olivier award-winning musical. Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical tells the story of an extraordinary girl with a vivid imagination, who dares to take a stand to change her story with miraculous results.

For this child-friendly screening The Horton is providing mats and space for younger children to move around, dance and sing along. There will be a 15 minute interval in the middle of the film.

The Leatherhead Operatic Society will be presenting a dazzling production of the beloved musical “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” at the Epsom Playhouse on Tuesday, 21st to Saturday, 25th November.

Choice Cut Young Film Screening Club 

Do you love film? Are you aged 15 – 20? Do you want to share your passion for film with the local community?

The Horton is looking for people aged 15-20, who are passionate about the power of film, to join its Choice Cut Film Club. This is a unique opportunity to develop your employability skills and add creative industry experience to your CV as well as enjoy some great films.

The club will run from 22 November 2023 to the end of March 2024.

Wimbledon Festive Light Trail

The Wimbledon Festive Light Trail is taking place from Thursday, 23rd November to Sunday, 17th December (from 4.30pm; last entry 9.00pm) Cannizaro Park, West Side Common, Wimbledon.

Step into a magical world of light, colour and sound, as you explore the grounds of Cannizaro Park adorned with thousands of lights transforming the gardens into an enchanted winter wonderland. An unmissable event to start off the festive season!

The trail will last around 45 minutes to an hour. On the trail there will be food outlets, mulled wine and cider, hot chocolate, marshmallow sticks for the fire pit amongst other things.

The Epsom Christmas Lights Switch On is taking place in the Market Square on Friday, 24th November (6pm-9pm). There’ll also be food and drink and plenty of family fun.

A Festive Tale at the Ashley Centre 

Head down to The Ashley Centre, Epsom on Saturday, November 25th and Sunday, November 26th (10.30am-4pm) for two enchanting days of festive fun. Hope into Action – how to help the homeless 

Jon Kuhurt, CEO of Hope into Action UK (which enables churches to house the homeless), will give an interactive talk about homelessness followed by Q&A at Epsom Methodist Church on Sunday, 26th November (6-8pm). Find out about the real problems in Epsom and what you can do to help.

Antiques, Collectables & Decorative Arts Market

This antiques and vintage market is held in Epsom’s market place at various dates throughout the year with the next being on Sunday, 26th November (10am – 4pm). This unique market offers up to 40 antique collectables, vintage, retro, bric a brac and vinyl records stalls plus interesting decorative arts. This one is guaranteed to give lots of Christmas inspiration!

NEAT HQ Open Day

Epsom Library – Stripey Stork’s Christmas campaign

Epsom Library is supporting Stripey Stork’s Christmas campaign, Santa Stork. Donations can be dropped off from now until the end of the month. The items needed are Christmas themed chocolate, new lego sets for all ages and new toiletry gift sets for men and women.

Stripey Stork is based in Reigate and supports vulnerable families across Surrey with all the practical items they need for their children (from 0-16 years old). In addition to its year-round support for families facing hardship, Santa Stork, aims to provide a brand-new Christmas gift for children across Surrey who would otherwise go without.

Santa will be landing by helicopter at Priory Park on Saturday, 2nd December. Join from 9.30am for a magical morning where children will get the opportunity to meet Father Christmas and tell him one last time that they have been good!
