Despite the chilly weather (more about that below) there are signs that spring is around the corner.

There’s plenty going on in March from Mother’s Day and International Women’s Day events to workshops, immersive story experiences and even snail races!

Here’s your round up…

Warm Wednesdays x Surrey County Council  

On March 1st, Warm Wednesdays (at Epsom Methodist Church) will host staff from Surrey County Council who will be providing advice on how to make your home more energy efficient. They will also have some free products to hand out that will help you keep your home warm.

So come along to Warm Wednesdays from 12 noon to find out what advice they have to offer (and enjoy a free bowl of soup and a roll while you are there).

Fire / Lego Walk 

The Children’s Trust has teamed up with UK Firewalk to coach you across 15 feet of hot coals on Thursday 2nd March!  This is the ultimate fundraiser where attendees are pushed to their limits to raise funds for The Children’s Trust.  Alternatively for children they can push themselves by carrying out a Lego walk!  Find out more info and other fundraising events for this fabulous charity here.

The Parenting Puzzle Workshops

The Parenting Puzzle Workshops run by Home-Start Epsom, Ewell and Banstead are taking place weekly on Thursdays throughout March (2nd of March to 23 of March – 4 Sessions) at 9.45am-11.45am at Epsom Family Centre. These sessions provide useful information for parents and carers.


Pink Floyd at The Epsom Playhouse 

Friday 3rd March, celebrating 50 years since the release of their iconic album The Dark Side of The Moon, UK Pink Floyd Experience recreate the sights and sounds of the legendary band in concert.  Find out more about tickets and other shows in March including The Bowie Experience, Legally Blonde and more here.

Houseplant Day at Ashtead Park Garden Centre

On Sunday, 5th March, Ashtead Park Garden Centre is holding a Houseplant Day. Its FREE talk on orchid care starts at 11am and will be followed by the chance to ask advice on your own orchid (or have it repotted – £3 or free when you buy a pot and potting mix).

Mary Frances Trust – A Mug of Mindfulness


Take some time for yourself and learn the practice of mindful meditation and mindfulness with Mary Frances Trust’s online sessions, which start on Monday, 6th March and run weekly on Mondays, 4pm-5pm.

Pandas Epsom & Ewell 

The next Pandas Epsom & Ewell session is on Monday, 6th March (9.30am-11am). If you are needing support with postnatal depression or low mood then come and join this peer support group and chat to others going through similar experiences.

They have a little play area for babies as well as great coffee, breakfast or brunch to purchase from the cafe.

Ebbisham Sports Club – International Women’s Day Social Doubles

It’s International Women’s Day on Wednesday, 8th March and Ebbisham Sports Club is marking this special day by hosting a Women’s Social Doubles Rackets event from 11.30am-1.30pm.

This social and friendly event is FREE and is suitable for women of all abilities. Attendees will get the opportunity to play doubles games of a variety of sports including badminton, squash, racketball, tennis, touch tennis, table tennis and pickleball.

After the sport, participants are welcome to enjoy FREE tea, coffee, and cake in the club lounge. In addition, a charity raffle will be held in aid of Ebbisham’s Club Charity 2023 EPSOM & EWELL FOODBANK.

In previous years, this event has been a huge success with over 35 women attending. It would be fantastic if the local community can get behind this event and encourage friends, family, and colleagues to get involved.

Short Stories Tall Tales @ The Horton

Short Stories Tall Tales will be at The Horton in March to put on their first live, sensory first-theatre experience in a series of upcoming shows.

Immerse your little ones’ imaginations through live performance, projection, fully interactive role-play, props, music and creative drama.

The first show, The Big Top, will be on Friday, 10th March with two performances taking place at 11:30am and 1:30pm.

Bar Nights at The Horton 

The next Bar Night at The Horton is on Friday, 10th March (free entry). Its atmospheric fully-licensed bar has a great vibe for friends or colleagues who love to chat with great background music and no TV. They serve everything from Prosecco to draught beer, great coffee and a wide selection of soft drinks. Bar snacks and sharing plates are also available early evening.

The bar will open at 6.30pm but large groups wishing to start earlier should get in touch as they may be able to accommodate an earlier table booking.

Join the Roman Army at Bourne Hall Kids Club 


The Legions of Rome march into Ewell (Bourne Hall) on Saturday, March 11th (1pm-2.30pm) enforcing the rule of the Empire. Discover what it was like to be a Roman soldier having to serve for 25 years before receiving your generous pension — if you survived! But you would get the best medical attention.

Discover what the army’s doctors could do and the skills of the engineers building bridges and roads. Learn about the weapons and tactics that made the Legions so effective and so feared. Enjoy listening to tales from a legionary of how he trained and fought, and see all his armour and equipment.

Ashtead Snail Race 

Get your tickets to the Ashtead Snail Race on Saturday, 11th March. It’s set to be a fantastic family night of fun and cheer (with a lovely meal included too). Proceeds will be going to the Scouts Kandersteg Switzerland expedition this August.

Pop along to Bourne Hall’s Art & Design Market on Saturday, 11th March (10am to 3pm) for a great selection of art and design-led crafts from local artists and makers.

Surrey Hills Hike for The Children’s Trust, Tadworth 

Join the Surrey Hills Hike (sponsored walk) on Sunday, March 12th. The hike starts and finishes at The Children’s Trust, Tadworth and all proceeds will help raise vital funds for children with brain injury.

It’s £10 for an adult and £5 for a child and there’s a new accessible 1K Your Way route, which wheelchairs and buggies can use. You can find out more and buy tickets here:

Mary Frances Trust Art Exhibition 

The Mary Frances Trust is holding its Unique Hope Exhibition at the The Horton, Epsom from Tuesday, 14th- Tuesday, 28th March as part of its Hope project funded by Surrey County Council.

Each painting, photograph, mosaic or poem is unique and created by its clients or local residents, who have expressed what HOPE means to them.

Beginners Pastel Nagomi Art Workshop at The Horton 

The Horton is offering a beginners Pastel Nagomi Art Workshop on Thursday, 16th March  (11.00am – 12:15pm). This is an experiential session for anyone looking to get a taster for Pastel Nagomi Art and come away with the basic skills and techniques – as well as your own beautiful art pieces.

Participants will be guided through the workshop by artist Cherie Crafty (@cherie_crafty) who is a certified Pastel Nagomi Art advanced instructor.

Cash in the Wardrobe 

Cash in the Wardrobe at Bourne Hall Ewell is for anyone wanting to sell pre-loved, second hand, vintage or even new clothes from their wardrobe. It’s held every third Saturday of the month with the next one being on Saturday, March 18th (9am-3pm).

Entry is free, and you can expect to find clothing, shoes, bags, belts, hats, accessories and jewellery.

The Mayor’s Charities Irish Music and Dance Evening

On Saturday, March 18th (7.30pm-11pm), join the Mayor and Mayoress of Epsom and Ewell for a night of Irish Music and Dance to raise money for the Mayor’s chosen charities – Epsom and Ewell Foodbank, Shine Cancer Support, JDRF Diabetes Research, Cardiac Risk in the Young, Epsom Sports Club, Racing Welfare and Bliss. The antiques and vintage market is held in Epsom’s market place at various dates throughout the year with the next being on Sunday, 19th March (10am – 4pm). Surrey County Council’s Big Court Quiz 

On Saturday, 25th March (12-2.30pm) at Blenheim High School, Surrey County Council invites you to prove how much you know about your local area in its Big Court Quiz.

This free fun-filled family event features A Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Quiz with multiple choice questions about your local area. The three teams with the most points at the end of the session will be leaving with prizes in hand!

On the day, other than the fun quiz, there’s free food and refreshments, free activities, free games (including an online escape room!) and a chance to have a say in your local community by talking to local area and SCC experts about what you love, and what you’d love to change about your local area.

Don’t want to take part in the quiz? No problem, you can still get to enjoy free refreshments, other free activities and games, and a chat with the experts and your fellow residents too.

Are you a career mum looking to return to work after having a baby? Or a partner looking to support your partner’s return to work? Then this workshop on Thursday, 13th April (from 8.15pm) is for you.

As the husband to a career mum, I know first-hand the challenges that modern mums face when returning to work after having a baby. That’s why I’m excited to announce our upcoming workshop that is designed to help both mum and dad navigate the last days of maternity leave and beyond!

Join me for an interactive, totally free session where we’ll discuss the challenges facing modern mums in returning to work and how the dads can play a key role in supporting you. Epsom Allsorts Ladies Running Club annual Hogsmill 5

The ever-popular annual ladies race is back on Sunday, May 14th. With no cut-off time it’s the perfect target for absolute beginners and enjoyed by established runners too. All abilities are welcome (minimum age for the main race is 16).

The race is mostly flat with the start and finish at the Harrier Centre athletics track in West Ewell and explores the picturesque parkland in the Hogsmill Local Nature Reserve.

There are also children’s races over various distances on the athletics track before the main event.

The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity as their Charity of the Year.

Early bird entries are £16 with UK Athletics affiliated runners and £18 non-affiliated until 28th February. The closing date for entries is Thursday 11 May 2023.

Surrey Police Open Day 

The Surrey Police Open Day, which was due to take place in September last year, has been rescheduled to Sunday, 23rd April. Join them at their HQ in Guildford for an action-packed day for all the family!

There’ll be dog trials, live demos an insight into teams across the Force and of course lots of vehicles on display too.

The event is free but you will need to register for tickets, so keep an eye out for their release in the coming weeks (if you were a September ticket holder, you will be emailed in the next week with early access to tickets before they are released publicly).

The Great Easter Grotto Escape at Godstone Farm  

Godstone Farm is introducing its Great Easter Grotto Escape between Saturday, 1st of April and Sunday, 16th April.

Hop into the Easter Grotto with your team and help to save Easter in this immersive Easter experience. This is an optional upgrade, which includes a visit to the Easter Grotto with treats along the way and an exciting visit to the Easter Bunny!

Your visit also includes a day of farmyard fun and additional Easter activities. There’ll be egg and spoon contests, bunny hop sack races and egg-cellent Easter crafts. Have a go at archery and egg rolling competitions and explore the Easter duck trail too. Join Grow Cook Enjoy for an amazing hot cross bunny workshop (10am- 12.30pm) at Concorde Hall, Epsom.

You’ll make traditional hot cross buns and some fantastic hot cross bunnies! Choose from blueberry and cinnamon, cherry and chocolate chip or traditional flavours.

The workshop is suitable for ages 5-12 years; adults must be present to supervise younger children.

Want to make a day of it? Join the chocolate fun baking class and they will provide lunch!

DoReMi with Fi 

Do Re Mi with Fi is aimed at toddlers aged 12 months to 3 years. Classes are on Thursday mornings from 10-10.30am and take place at St. Barnabas church hall, Temple road, Epsom, KT19 8HA.

Lavender Theatre 

Many of you will be familiar with the Mayfield Lavender Farm in Banstead. You might be less familiar with its sister site in Epsom. This too has beautiful lavender and has recently been renovated to include a lovely cafe and shop, and is soon to house a 250-seat outdoor theatre (with glasshouse restaurant opening this spring).

On 6th May church bells all round the country will ring out to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III. You could be part of it, heralding the event by taking part in one of the oldest traditions: church bell ringing.
