THE FOOD OF LOVE – ITALIAN RESTAURANTS IN THE AREA
Posted by Kalli Pasqualucci on 12 Feb 2019
Italian has, for many years, been voted as one of the most romantic foods in the world – this might be due to a generation of people who remember the famous and adorable Lady and the Tramp spaghetti scene.
Or it might actually be because of the way the food makes you feel. I’m sure that most people would mention at least one Italian dish that would be on their comfort food list – foods that make you feel happy. That said, I have also just read an interesting little article that claims that a lot of the ingredients in the most popular Italian dishes are also aphrodisiacs, so maybe that is why it is considered the food of love??
Whatever your attraction to Italian food is, if you would like a romantic (or family) meal in the area, especially with Valentine’s Day approaching, then here are some of my suggestions.
We love going to ASK Italian on Epsom High Street, as a couple and with our boys. The boys love receiving their complimentary homemade lemonade on arrival, and the food and drinks are always fantastic. Plus, there is a great atmosphere. They serve pizzas, pastas, salads, and meat and fish dishes. Plus their puddings are delicious. They have set menus all year around, and great special offers; but they also have a special Valentine’s Day three-course meal for £19.95. I love their spinach and ricotta arancini, spinach and ricotta girasole (I promise I eat other things than just spinach and ricotta) and their blood orange and chocolate tart.
I have also enjoyed a delicious Italian meal with a group of friends at Sicily and Prezzo; and have had family meals and a fantastic take away (I dashed out mid blog to collect it) from Pizza Express in Epsom.
Ewell has three well known Italian restaurants. My husband and I used to go to Il Laghetto, which has rebranded as Rafayel Sardinian Restaurant – I have yet to try their new menu. We have been to Il Capriccio with the boys (which I am not sure that I would do now that my 5 year old is no longer a newborn sleeping babe in arms). However, we had a fantastic meal there.
The most family friendly of the three, I felt, was Neapolitan Kitchen. It has a warm family-friendly but formal feel. The highlight for my boys was watching their pizzas being made by the pizza chefs, right next to our table.
Another highly rated Italian restaurant in Ewell is Topo Gigio.
I went for a mum’s meal to Wildwoods in Cheam and had a wonderful evening. There was a lovely, homely atmosphere and we were surrounded by tables of couples and groups. I have also heard from my friends that their children absolutely love it there. They have a four-course Valentine’s Day set menu for £19.95. When I went, I had a Courgette and Goat’s Cheese calzone, which was very enjoyable.
Our favourite Pizza Express out of all of the ones that we have been to (we’ve been to a lot, I live with three Italians) is the one in Worcester Park. They have a three-course sharing menu for two from £28.95.
I have yet to try Spaghetti Tree in Tadworth, but I have heard how wonderful the food is. We will have to also add this to our 2019 bucket list of places that we need to try. There is a Valentine’s Day special – £49.95 for a four-course set menu, a glass of Prosecco and live music.
With so many fantastic Italian restaurants in Epsom, Ewell and the surrounding areas, I hope that you find one that suits you.
