THE EPSOM AND EWELL FOODBANK NOT JUST FOR FOOD…
Posted by Devenia Besant on 13 Nov 2020
The Epsom & Ewell Foodbank was opened in 2012 to help provide food and household staples for people finding themselves in financial crisis.
According to statistics issued by the Foodbank, 1 in 5 of the UK population are now living below the poverty line. Which is a figure that is increasing due to the pressure of COVID-19 and it’s devastating impact on people’s livelihoods.
As a community it is vital we not only help this fundamental cause but also understand the immense work that the Epsom & Ewell Foodbank do to support those in need. Here’s a run down on just how much they do:
PROVIDING EMERGENCY BOXES FOR THOSE IN NEED
Emergency boxes may contain not only food but household products such as:
• Toiletries (The Foodbank works closely with the Hygiene Bank)
• Baby Products
• Pet Food
• Household Items such as bleach, toilet roll.
• Feminine hygiene products such as Sanitary Towels & Tampons
• Cupboard Staples such as rice, pasta and tinned fruit and veg.
PROVIDING FURNITURE FOR THOSE IN NEED
The Foodbank accepts donations of second hand furniture which can be provided to people who find themselves having to start from scratch.
DIGITAL INCLUSION SERVICE
Many children living in poverty are often at a major disadvantage in terms of education and development. Especially when it comes to not having access to the technological tools needed for their school work.
The Foodbank offer a service where you can donate unused laptops and tablets to those families that need them.
Enabling those to have access to educational technological support.

Having a baby born into poverty is something nobody should have to face.
The Foodbank supplies families in need Newborn Baby Packs which include:
• Baby Wipes
• Nipple Creams
• Nappy Rash Creams

And much more.

A LISTENING EAR
The Epsom & Ewell Foodbank always are there to offer a listening ear and a hot drink.
Facing poverty can be extremely isolating and a listening ear is sometimes the support that someone needs when facing crisis.
The Epsom & Ewell Foodbank work closely with specialist services and healthcare professionals such as Health Visitors, the Community Nursing team, Social Services and much more and together can give those in need the emotional and practical help they need.
Epsom and Ewell Families is a massive supporter of the charity and this year Dee has worked with them to create a text to donate campaign to help families in need have a fresh Christmas meal. If you would to support the Christmas campaign you can help by texting to donate:
