🌸 Spring has finally sprung and the school holidays and Easter are on the horizon. There’s plenty to keep the kids entertained for the duration including lots of holiday camps and workshops. Fear not though, there’s a lot on for the adults too! Here’s your roundup…

 

Easter at Hobbledown 

🐣 This Easter, Hobbledown Epsom will be hosting Egg-stra special Easter holiday fun from Friday, 29th March to Sunday, 14th April. Guests will be able to get hands-on with the Easter activities daily and everything is included in your general admission fee.

Mega Camps

Epsom and Ewell History Talk on WW2

Find out what it was really like in the area during WW2 on Wednesday, April 3rd (11am-12.30pm). The Borough suffered heavily from bombing in World War 2 and from 1940 to 1944, 890 alerts were sounded, 384 people were injured by enemy action and 33 killed.

There were more than 200 incidents with 12,234 houses slightly damaged, 413 devastated and 192 destroyed, while thousands of incendiary and anti-personnel bombs were dropped with 440 high explosives, 64 oil and 30 flying bombs falling on the Borough.

Song of the Sea Screening @ The Horton 


On Thursday, 4th April (11.30am) there’ll be a screening of Song of the Sea (PG) as selected by The Horton’s Young Film Programmers Group.

The film was nominated for an Oscar in 2015. This beautifully crafted animation from Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon draws on Irish folklore. The film explores what happens in Ben’s family when he discovers his sister is a mythical creature – a sea-dwelling Selkie.

A settlement since pre-historic times, Ewell has a rich history concealed beneath the modern village. Visit Bourne Hall’s sacred lake where Bronze, Iron Age and Roman folk made offerings to ancient gods. Tread in the footsteps of the Romans on Stane Street and hear about their sacred shafts. Discover the village’s Saxon cemetery and its lost church. Relive the terror of exploding gunpowder mills and hear the area’s connections with Saxon Kings, Queen Elizabeth I and William IV.

YMCA Easter Activity Programme 

Join the YMCA Emotional Wellbeing & Mental Health team this Easter for free activities for young people aged 11-18 (Year7+).

Bubbleman @ Epsom Playhouse 

Louis Pearl has been thrilling audiences around the world for over 30 years with the art, magic, science and fun of bubbles. He is a favourite at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where he has enjoyed twelve years of sell-out success. On Friday, 5th April (2.30pm) you can catch him at Epsom Playhouse.

Louis explores the breath-taking dynamics of bubbles, combining comedy and artistry with audience participation and enough spellbinding bubble tricks to keep everyone mesmerised. From square bubbles, bubbles inside bubbles, fog-filled bubbles, giant bubbles, bubble volcanoes, tornados and trampolines to people inside bubbles, the Amazing Bubble Man conjures shrieks of laughter and gasps of amazement from all ages.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again 2

Get ready to sing your heart out and enjoy a fabulous night at the Mamma Mia! 2 Here we go Again sing-a-long at St Mary’s, Ewell Saturday, 6th April (from 6.30pm).

Try-Sport Easter Camps  

Try-Sport Holiday Camps are back this Easter at Ebbisham Sports Club, with two dates available to book on Tuesday 9 & Wednesday 10 April from 9.00am-3.30pm.

For those who have not attended our camps previously, Try-Sport camps are an ideal introduction to a variety of different sports for children aged 7-14 years old. They’re an enjoyable way for children to start playing sport and feature coaching, games and social activities. Children will learn new sports skills, make friends and grow their confidence!

Cost: Ebbisham Members £32 per day/ Non-Members £35 per day

The Worst Jobs at Sea – Bourne Hall Museum Kids Club

 

On Saturday, 13th April (1pm to 2.30pm) discover the worst jobs at sea, including the roles of the scrubber, the cook, the powder monkey and the surgeon at Bourne Hall Museum Kids Club.

Can you escape to become a Navigator? You’ll look at the equipment they used, as well as the boatswain and carpenter. They have objects for each and willing volunteers can demonstrate each job. You’ll also go aboard the Nonsuch galleon. She was built by Queen Mary in 1555 as the Philip and Mary, renamed Nonpareil in 1584, and commanded by Sir Francis Drake in 1588. In June 1602 the English fleet with the Nonpareil defeated a Spanish galley fleet, taking a ship loaded with treasure valued at over a million ducats. In 1603 she was renamed Nonsuch, rebuilt as a great ship of 454 tons carrying 32 guns.

Epsom Fashion Week Charity Fashion Show 

Epsom Social is once again hosting a Charity Fashion Show as part of its Epsom Fashion week event on Saturday, 27th April in collaboration with Epsom & Ewell Families and Surrey Rocks.

April Makers Market at The Horton

Tennis Open Day at Ebbisham Sports Club

On Saturday, 27th April from 1.30-5.00pm, Ebbisham Sports Club invites the local community, of all ages and abilities, to join them for free coaching sessions with Head Coach Callum Macarty and his assistants. There will also be cardio-tennis, a chance to find out how fast you can serve, and an opportunity to face the ball machine!

There will also be a running barbecue throughout the afternoon.

Do you feel a little isolated or just fancy a bit of fun and a natter? Maybe you could invite a neighbour along who doesn’t seem to get out and about much?

🧵 We meet in the Parish Room in the Parish Centre, next to ‘The Church by Stoneleigh Station’, on the third Monday of each month between 1oam-12pm.

🪡 Everyone brings their own craft, be it knitting, card making, crochet, sewing, mindful colouring to name a few. With lots of chat and tea and coffee we craft the morning away.
