Petch Psychology / Psychologist / ADHD Assessment

Petch Psychology offers a friendly, expert and individualised psychological therapy and ADHD assessment service to children, adolescents and families.  My name is Dr Vikky Petch and I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with over 25 years’ experience within the NHS and private children’s mental health services.   I work with children, adolescents, and families presenting with a huge range of emotional and behavioural difficulties such as anxiety, anger, depression, and stress; plus neurodevelopmental conditions such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Autistc Spectrum Disorder.  My service provides assessment, therapeutic intervention, and consultation for mental health difficulties, plus a full ADHD assessment service for young people 18 years and under.

Growing up and parenting don’t come with a manual and at times children and families can find it tough going!  Difficulties can gradually creep up over time or can be the result of sudden traumatic events or experiences.  I aim to help parents, children and teenagers make sense of their experiences and then work to address their difficulties.  I work from a non-blaming, collaborative perspective, tailoring my work to suit the needs and circumstances of the family. I pride myself on providing an individualistic approach and working with compassion and understanding.  I work hard to engage the young people I see and am constantly thinking about how to provide a positive experience which they can carry forwards with them into adult life.

My ADHD assessment service meets gold standards according to the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines.  My assessment protocol is extremely thorough and uses a combination of questionnaires, a face-to-face interview and a computer based test.  I really take the time to get to know the family and to understand their concerns.  My reports provide a wealth of individualised recommendations for both school and home. My training as a Clinical Psychologist allows me to develop a full and detailed formulation of difficulties integrating psychological, environmental, and biological factors.  The NICE guidelines advise that ‘a comprehensive, holistic shared treatment plan that addresses psychological, behavioural and occupational or educational needs’ should be implemented following diagnosis and I am able to provide ongoing support around this as well as referring to a medical colleague if medication is indicated.   As a parent of a young person with a diagnosis of ADHD and dyslexia I am passionate about getting the diagnostic process right and facilitating the correct support. This helps young people to achieve their potential and learnt to work with, as opposed to against, their amazing brains.

I am Health & Care Professionals Council registered and fully DBS checked. I have worked in a range of settings including CAMHs,  the Clinical Psychology Doctorate at The University of Surrey, and several schools for young people with additional needs. My clinic is based in Leatherhead.  I am a proud mum of 2 young adults, a crazy cockapoo called Rubble and a beautiful horse called Oliver.

Please do contact me if you have any questions about my service or would like to know more about the ADHD assessment process.

  1. “Vikky has been treating my 10 year old daughter for anxiety on a bi-weekly basis. Vikky has a great demeanour with my daughter, who is autistic with a PDA profile and can be resistant to discussing feelings. My daughter loves seeing her each time, and has started opening up about her feelings. Vikky uses great visual tools and analogies to help my daughter understand her feelings, and has helped her understand why certain strategies will improve her anxiety.

Vikky has significantly changed my daughter’s life for the better, improving her anxiety so that she is now enjoying activities she was too anxious to do before. My daughter uses the tools Vikky has given her to understand manage her anxiety, and often reminds herself of what she has learned in our sessions. We would happily recommend her to other individuals and families.”

  2. “Petch Psychology provided an assessment and diagnosis for my daughter. Vicky is extremely caring and was amazing with my daughter. She always ensured both myself and my daughter knew and understood what was being discussed and has been a huge help both before during and since the assessment.

  3. “Petch Psychology met our family’s needs in dealing with some issues and life changes we were managing as a family. I have used similar providers that didn’t take the family dynamics into account, so it was great to finally use a service that adapted to what help was needed and was realistic, Vikky was great in terms of the support given and time spent, it was good value for money.

I have recommended the service to friends and contacts because of the collaborative, practical and realistic advice provided, it really helped us to understand our sons needs.”
