⭐️ Tell us a bit about you and your business?

My name’s James and I’m a father of two lovely boys (well, they were before lockdown!). I started my business as I wanted to be more flexible around their upbringing, and wanted to be able to work around their lives so not to miss out on anything. I started my videography company – Twenty20 Visions – last year after being a photographer since 2013. It seemed a natural progression for me to switch over to video and after working with some amazing professionals whilst on wedding shoots, I felt the urge to leap!

I’m quite fond of my gadgets too, so it gave me a great excuse to buy some new camera gear and also some drones for the aerial footage and imagery. To class it all as business expenses is just a perk I guess!

I have always loved editing and it’s always so satisfying when you get to create something from your imagination, especially when there’s music involved. Being able to translate raw footage of pure emotions to a timeless video or set of stills, and to make the viewer cry – for me those moments are priceless, it’s a real beautiful thing which can make the hairs stand on the back of your neck.

⭐️ What’s changed for your business since the outbreak of Covid-19?

So yes, I was full of such optimism for this year, so much so that I named my company after it – well that was a slight misjudgment hey?! It’s obviously affected everything and everyone. All of my wedding bookings have been postponed til 2021 which of course is disappointing but it’s more important that the wedding couples, families & friends are all safe and well, and ready to celebrate properly when safe to do so.

The break has given me a chance to reinforce solid working relationships, brainstorm with some local businesses with a view to produce short promo videos for them on release, and there’s even those that have forwarded me some of their phone footage to edit together. Business always adapts and ultimately evolves. You must always try to smile and embrace it.

⭐️ What are you looking forward to when lock down is over?

Being able to hug my friends and family !! I’m a people person and this has been a very difficult time. I can’t wait to get back in front of people and share the excitement of planning their bigs days and business promotional videos. It will be a real celebration for small businesses when we get through this pandemic and can finally shout that we are open for business once again! I will be there to capture all of it 😊

⭐️ Lastly what’s your positive message to help others through this?

Yes we are all in this together but it would be wrong but to say that we are all in the same boat. I have seen both positive and negative things during lockdown and I think I would say just be non judgmental to others and be kind to yourself and those around you. Social media has intensified during lockdown and almost gives people a licence to enforce their opinion on you. If you’ve got nothing nice to add, then maybe keep scrolling down!

And how have I been managing through all this? Well, I refuse to take a step backwards. Winded maybe and stopped in my tracks temporarily yes. But tomorrow I will take that little step forward again, and the day after that, and so on.

I look forward to seeing you all soon. Take care and stay safe 😊😊
