⭐️ Tell us a bit about you and your business?

My name is Katie and Pipsqueaks Performing Arts is my business, offering classes and parties for 1 – 11 year olds.

⭐️ What’s changed for your business since the outbreak of Covid-19?

Well, since the closure of nurseries, schools, baby and preschool classes, like a lot of my friends and colleagues, my income went from ‘I’m doing ok’ to a big fat zero – like a Ferrari going from 0-60mph! Party bookings were cancelled too, and of course I had quite a busy month for them in April. I needed to keep my head as having 2 children (aged 10 & 14) to support emotionally, physically and financially, who were also going through their own processes, they didn’t need to see Mum panic or get too down. My main concern was to look at the long term of the term effects this crisis was going to have not just on little old me but businesses across the country. I had some classes professionally filmed by another fantastic independent business and we’re exchanging services for these, it was already clear to me people were starting to pull together. This really was a comfort, of epic proportions.

I was given an idea of running a Zoom birthday party very early on and so I did….a few days later PipScreens Parties was born! I had more booking than before lockdown, was able to bring smiles to the children face and help parents in a very tricky time.

A friend suggested I run daily preschool Zoom classes so I did…a few days later Pipsqueakers and Shakers was born! The families from the nurseries I teach at have joined in most days and I’ve had some wonderful feedback from parents about how the daily routine is really helping them.

I’ve taken my after school club onto Zoom too and we’re learning a Bollywood dance – something different and to work towards for the children.

Helping parents and children at this incredible unsure and strange time is in turn helping me to keep Pipsqueaks visible, in a routine and taught me to never ever give up.

⭐️ What are you looking forward to when lock down is over?

I’m looking forward to seeing my children hug their friends and family, getting back to my Pips and Stars face to face and to thanking all my amazing friends and colleagues in person for their ideas and support – they’ve been incredible.

⭐️ Lastly what’s your positive message to help others through this?

Positive message: Sing, dance and cherish every moment, it’ll be over soon. 🌈

Stay safe,
