⭐️ Tell us a bit about you and your business?

Hello I’m Mel, mother of 5 beautiful daughters and wearer of many hats. I started my business The Dutiful Doula in 2016 because pregnancy and early parenting are such a fundamental time in life and families deserve the best support. I am passionate about this and it is the sole reason I became a Doula. I support every family with the choices that matter to them, provide evidence based information and education whilst offering support that is non judgemental, compassionate and gentle.

I offer birth and postnatal Doula support, hypnobirthing and antenatal education, pregnancy relaxation classes, rewind technique for birth trauma and many other pregnancy, birth and early parenting education and support.

⭐️ What’s changed for your business since the outbreak of Covid-19?

At the start of the outbreak I was looking forward to some downtime, a welcome break from the busy life that so many of us lead (even though I prefer to be busy than quiet) and I’m still trying to find it!

Babies are still being born and parents being made. Whilst I’m not physically able to be present my virtual support has been in huge demand, I feel like I’m busier than ever but in a different way. It’s very clear that families are concerned about having their babies in the current climate.

⭐️ What are you looking forward to when lock down is over?

Firstly being able to give my eldest daughter a kiss and cuddle, she lives with her partner and it’s been really hard to not see her.

Secondly being able to be physically present whilst supporting my clients. Virtual support has proved to be invaluable but my job really is based on human connection, being with someone and offering in person reassurance is the heart of my work. I also miss seeing families connecting with each other during my hypnobirthing/antenatal classes.

⭐️ Lastly what’s your positive message to help others through this?

It’s not going to rain forever. 🌈

For those navigating pregnancy and birth, you’re able to navigate this with the same amazing strength as before. Validate your thoughts and feelings, be kind to yourself and remember to focus on all the things you can control.
There are many ways to access support, please don’t be afraid to ask. 💜
