STAY POSITIVE – FACE BEHIND THE BUSINESS, BERRIE GARDEN DESIGN
Posted by Devenia Besant on 10 Jun 2020
⭐️ Tell us a bit about you and your business?
I started Berrie Garden Design and Maintenance in 2009 after studying garden design. I worked in hospitals as a Speech and Language Therapist before my career change and I have never looked back.
I help clients redesign patios, lawn shapes and border shapes as well as with plant design. Plant design shows clients how different plant combinations work to create an overall beautiful space in the in the garden. I also choose plants to suit the soil and light conditions, so that the plants will survive and look beautiful.
Part of the design service is to guide clients through the landscape process and help them choose materials for the garden which are robust and look good as well as helping them with the budget for the works. I work with several landscapers who build the gardens from my design.
⭐️ What’s changed for your business since the outbreak of Covid-19?
When lock down was announced my business enquiries decreased initially but they soon picked up when people got over the panic and started spending more time in their gardens. Business is less than usual for this time of year but it is steadily picking up and I am working full time again while juggling home schooling and running a household. I have been lucky in that I have been able to enter gardens in isolation and measure them up and assess them as well as meet clients at a distance outdoors. I started using Zoom to show clients their designs as well as have consultations which has been very helpful. I may continue using Zoom after lockdown as it saves travel time and petrol.
I have struggled to source all the plants I require for clients but it has meant that I have looked at suppliers I may have not considered before.
⭐️ What are you looking forward to as lock down eases?
When lock down is over I am looking forward to having a massage and going out for a meal.
