SHADOW PUPPETRY @ THE HORTON EPSOM #REVIEW…

Posted by Kalli Pasqualucci on 24 Apr 2026

Last week, my son and I visited The Horton to see Gaby Gulliver’s Travels by Indigo Moon Theatre.

I haven’t watched shadow puppetry in years, and had completely forgotten how wonderful it can be: the way that light, movement and imagination come together to tell a story – it was magical and captivating.

The story follows Gaby through strange lands, exploring how she feels being VERY big and VERY small. But beneath all of her adventures, there’s a gentle reminder about how easily we can take things for granted, and why it’s important to appreciate what we have.

The loveliest touch for me, was at the end of the show – the cast invited the children up onto the stage to experiment with the puppets that they’d used in the show.

Allowing them to try different characters and see the effects of moving towards and away from the light. I believe that these interactive experiences help to ensure that theatre stays alive and accessible for younger audiences.
