On a Sunny Saturday morning my two children, Harry (7yrs) and Elliott (4yrs) had the absolute pleasure of attending a Saturday morning French class with the lovely Myriam Gelling, founder of Altetude French Tutoring.

Both boys have differing levels of understanding of French, Harry attends French lessons at school, whereas Elliott has a very limited knowledge of the French language, however this was not a problem when attending Myriam’s class.

The boys were warmly welcomed by Myriam and introduced to the other children who varied in ages, some Elliott’s age and some nearer to Harry’s age, making it automatically feel inclusive for all the children.

First of all the children went through their homework exercise which was given to them from the week before.  Myriam explained that the homework activities are always a fun way of reinforcing what the children have learnt in the previous lesson and often consists of word games/puzzles which makes it an enjoyable activity for the children to do at home with their parents or alone.

Going through their homework reinforces again what they have learnt a week before and helps Myriam identify any mistakes or misunderstandings the children may have before moving on to the next topic.

After this the children all participated in a game which helped them learn colours and encouraged them to use their knowledge of using French when counting. The boys loved it!

Myriam explained that throughout the classes they will learn and practice French through various ways,
Craft, Art, Individual Games; both indoor and outdoor, Stories, and Music so that it is a fun way of learning rather than being in a classroom/school setting.  ‘Kids are Kids…they need to learn in a fun way it’s about making it enjoyable’

The children definitely were having fun and there was a lovely camaraderie amongst the group which was evident when playing French ball games outside in the playing field near the classroom.
The boys loved it and would definitely return in the future.

Myriam has such a lovely, nurturing warmth which shines through in her teaching.
Her methods of teaching are based on keeping learning simple, taking time and above all building confidence through making learning French fun!

Each child receives a Altetude bag with a French exercise book for them to use at home and in the class.
