Sometimes there is nothing better than a midweek impromptu night out and where else better than the fun and funky Rocksalt in Epsom. Having visited many times before we knew we were going to be in for a great evening!

As always when we entered the doors of the bar/restaurant we were greeted by the attentive and friendly staff that were wearing protective masks at all times. They kindly showed us to our table within the spacious but intimate outside area. Interiors as you walk through are bang on trend with a mixture of industrial style lighting combined with the classic raftan style of 1970s bistro. Natural stone walls are softly lit with strategically placed lighting making you feel instantly at home.

The outside seating area is lit with super stylish hanging bulbs and adorned with beautiful greenery. Almost like a trendy secret garden (check it out on Instagram).  Part of the outside seating area has a heating system that can be turned on or off we were lucky enough to be sat within this area and it provided the perfect amount of warmth meaning we didn’t have to sit there with our big winter coats on, this meant we all felt that we could enjoy being dressed up rather than having to be covered up in mountains of layers!

Tables were divided with screens in between each party (with no more than 6) in keeping with covid guidelines which also meant you were not seated on top of one another and gave you privacy between guests.  Like previous visits the atmosphere was buzzing and vibrant but very relaxed, we sat at our table and were shown the extensive cocktail menu.  I went for the classic whiskey sour which was decorated with a 1970s style glacé cherry, whilst the others enjoyed french martinis and negronis (another 70’s classic).

As the funky music played in the background we enjoyed our cocktails and ordered our starters and mains. I went for the classic tricolore salad whilst the others enjoyed scallops (new to the menu) and the basque sausage. All of which were presented beautifully.

The service at Rocksalt really is notably efficient and the staff are very attentive, as shortly after finishing our starters our mains arrived.  Again beautifully presented, I had the salmon fillet which was absolutely amazing. The fish just melted in the mouth and it was seasoned to perfection.  I didn’t want the dish to finish!

We enjoyed a little rest before our spectacular desserts and sipped a bottle or two of Prosecco between us. The atmosphere was great and everyone was having a great time.

The staff were so lovely and treated everyone like old friends, consistently checking to see if people were happy and really looking after their guests.  There were a couple of birthdays amongst the diners and the staff really made it special for those celebrating by bringing over a dessert and candles whilst serenading them.  The whole restaurant joined in clapping and celebrating with them it was really lovely to see especially after a year of restrictions.

Our desserts arrived and were just as stylish and tasty as the other courses.  Myself and Nicci enjoyed the traditional Turkish dessert Baklava which was served with a delicious ice cream. Again literally melting in the mouth with each bite.  Dee enjoyed the honeycomb slice whist Nicky enjoyed the mint bomb.  The portions were more than generous!

We finished the night with a couple of night caps including Amarettos and more cocktails and we all didn’t want the night to end!  It really was a night to remember, Rocksalt we will definitely be back again soon!
