Have you visited the new paint-your-own ceramic shop in Waterloo Road yet? As the Epsom grapevine has been buzzing with the news of this budding business, we popped along one afternoon to see what all the fuss was about!

This bright and airy studio space is very inviting, combined with a fabulously arty window display and a warm welcome from Angie, the proprietor, meant that we felt immediately at ease. At present walk-ins are encouraged and with space for 28 ‘artistes’ it feels like a real community space. There is a huge selection of over 80 ceramics to choose from, from latte mugs to mermaid trinket boxes, there literally is something for everyone.

All paint used is non-toxic and washable, and there is an extensive choice of colours available, we counted 24 shades! Aprons can be provided for children, along with a ceramic hedgehog full of different sized and shaped paint-brushes (bet you’ve never heard that one before!) Complimentary tea, coffee or squash all contribute towards the generally relaxed ambience. Once your creative masterpiece is finished, hand it over to Angie and it will be glazed and fired in the kiln all ready for you to collect in a couple of days.

Happy Glaze do offer birthday parties for ages 7+ with a minimum of 8 children, prices start at £16 per child and include their very own piece to paint and keep forever, although be aware you will need to provide your own catering.

Pre-booking is recommended on Thursday evenings when the studio sees an adult-only session from 6-9pm. You are welcome to bring a bottle and explore your inner Picasso, with a variety of methods taught, including silk-screen & sponging among others you may surprise yourself! In addition Wise Owl Wednesday morning sessions are aimed at senior citizens and offer a half-price studio fee.

Parking is available in the nearby NCP (Ebbisham Centre) or Hood Road Car Park. Although there is parking outside the shop it is limited to 20 mins, which would still be sufficient for party pick-ups and drop-offs!

All in all, Happy Glaze is a lovely addition to central Epsom and I’m sure it will be very successful!
