FUNDRAISING SHOWCASE: KEEP ELLIS IN REMISSION…

Posted by Devenia Besant on 23 Mar 2024

Hi Chloe, Tell us more about you and your family?

I live in Ewell with my husband Neil, our daughter Lily who is 5, our Son Ellis who is 2 and our two house bunnies Chester and Wendy! Lily and Ellis have a very special bond their relationship as siblings is magical to watch.

Can you tell us more about your son and the type of cancer he has?

Ellis is the most gorgeous, happy, loveable little boy. In July 2023 he was diagnosed with High Risk Stage 4 Neuroblastoma Cancer. He is one of 100 children in the UK to be diagnosed with this aggressive cancer every year and we were given a cure rate of just 44 percent.

You are now fundraising for treatment in America can you tell us more about that?

With Neuroblastoma the relapse rate is incredibly high and can come back exceptionally fast. If a relapse occurs the survival rate drops to a devastating 5-10% Ellis has undergone gruelling standard frontline treatment in the UK and is now entering a “ Maintenance phase” of treatment.

We are fundraising for Ellis to access a life saving drug ( DFMO) after he finishes his UK treatment. This drug has recently been approved in America and is thought to reduce the risk of relapse in Neuroblastoma by 50%.  Keeping Ellis in a remission is key and will give him the best possible chance of survival. It is thought the drug will eventually be rolled out throughout Europe but we don’t have the time to wait as Ellis needs to start the drug 30-60 days after his frontline treatment finishes to keep the cancer at bay.

Lastly how can the local community help you with your fundraising efforts?

Every single pound will go towards Ellis’ treatment and care and enable us to access the treatment we so desperately need.
So far we have friends who have signed up to Marathons, put up Ellis’ posters in local business and have set up raffles.
Other ideas could be:

– Car boot sales
– Cake sales
– Local business fundraisers
– Sponsored walks
– Local collection buckets
– Charity golf day
– Black tie fundraisers
– Auction events

ANY fundraising support at all would make a huge difference to us as a family even if it’s to share Ellis’ story, thank you 🙏

Thank you for sharing you story with us Chloe, we wish your family every success with Ellis’ treatment.
