Five Star Eateries – Epsom and Ewell and Surrounds

Posted by Samantha Hicks on 20 Jan 2018

Some of you may have seen the recent Epsom Guardian article revealing the local businesses who have received low ratings by the Food Standards Agency (FSA). We’ve decided to turn that on its head and to highlight our local independent eateries that have been awarded a 5 star hygiene rating; To achieve this accolade the business must have reached an inspection level of ‘good’ or ‘very good’ across three categories;

  1. Hygienic food handling
  2. Cleanliness
  3. Food safety

Now let’s go ahead and explore a few of the top-rated restaurants for hygiene in our area…..

Epsom:

Let’s kick off in central Epsom with fishy favourite A Plaice to Eat, High Street. Reasonably priced and friendly staff make this a popular choice for good old British grub. Just down the road in South Street we have Sicily, a quality Italian restaurant that prides itself on a personal touch. A hidden gem in Ashley Square award-winning Bamboo Basket offers tasty, authentic Chinese food.

Ewell:

Moving into Ewell we have the pretty oasis that is Ewell Court Tearoom situated in the grounds of Ewell Court House, it serves up delicious home-made cakes and sandwiches every day except Monday. If it’s chow mein you’re after then Lucky 5 on the Chessington Road boasts all your family favorites along with an exemplary food rating.

Banstead:

Lively Galu in Nork way, Banstead offers a great atmosphere and an impressive Greek menu, past visitors rave about the steak and cocktails. For those of us that like a little spice in our life then The Curry Centre in the High Street is for you, its been happily producing traditional Indian cuisine for over 40 years.

Leatherhead:

While we are on the subject of curry five star Five Rivers in Bridge Street, Leatherhead hosts a popular all-you-can-eat buffet on Sunday. If you’re on a health kick for the start of the year then The Olive cafe in Kingston Road is ideal for a fresh, nutritious catch up with friends.

Ashtead:

Rated the second best restaurant in Ashtead on Tripadvisor, The Street’s Ashtead Charcoal Grill’s kebabs are renowned in the area along with their friendly service. Another outstanding take-away China Express on Barnett Wood Lane offers handy gluten-free options.

Worcester Park:

Newcomer to the block Park Grill, Central Road Worcester Park has certainly made excellent first impressions with residents, opening at the end of December with a coveted 5 star rating, it offers Turkish cuisine in a relaxed setting. A long time Oriental favorite also in Central Road is Classic Wok a take-away that offers a wide delivery area of its traditional Chinese dishes.

Cheam:

There’s nothing desperate about El Desperado in London Road Cheam which never fails to impress with its generous portions and 2 4 1 cocktail offer on a Tuesday. Number one Thai in Cheam Road is said to rival its homeland with its tasty and exotic range of dishes.

So, if this hasn’t got your taste-buds tingling then we don’t know what will……one thing that’s for sure is that you know you can enjoy a meal from any of these establishments comfortable in the fact that your food has been prepared safely, in a clean environment, if you are unsure this should be displayed clearly at the eaterie if not feel free to ask.  This is not an exhaustive list of all the 5* ratings in the area but does show we do have some great variety and high standards are achieved.

Well done to these local businesses from Epsom & Ewell Families!
