It’s here! Russia 2018, love it or loathe it – there will soon be World Cup Fever everywhere….Seeing as football is generally regarded as a male sport we thought we’d investigate what options there are locally for those girls & young ladies interested in the beautiful game.
Epsom & Ewell Colts FC
This summer is the first year the Football club has run an SSE Wildcats Training Centre For Girls. Launched in April it’s aimed at 5-11 year olds and costs just £2 per session. It takes place at Poole Road Recreation Ground on a Saturday morning at 10.30am and promises a fun and engaging environment created exclusively for girls. For more info contact Will via email willthesaint@hotmail.co.uk.
Sutton United Ladies
Slightly last minute but trials are taking place this evening (14th June) for the U14-U16. These open sessions offer a chance for girls to play for the club next season and help to lead on easily from junior to adult football. For more info email: ladies@suttonunited.net
Stoneleigh Athletic FC
Not strictly for girls this mixed football club play their home games at Auriol Park in Worcester Park on Saturday and Sunday mornings and are on the lookout for new players, more info here.
Beecholme Belles, Banstead
Training for girls from U6 right up to U18 and established in 2000 this was Surrey’s first club to be dedicated to girls football.Run by parent volunteers they also have an SSE Wildcats session on Friday evenings at 5.45pm. More info on the website here.
Ashtead Fillies
Ashtead FC have introduced a girls team for U12. Their club is based on Barnett Wood Lane and was awarded by the FA as a ‘The Charter Standard Club of the year 2012’ More info here.
Claygate Royals Girls
49 teams and over 500 players make up this village club, including 4 girls teams. They are currently looking for new members. More info: enquiries@claygate-royals.org.uk.
If you’re female and fancy a kickabout there’s certainly a few clubs here to be considered and for the under 5’s why not book a trial with Little Kickers 😉
