January is done and dusted, the days are getting noticeably longer and there’s plenty going on in February and that’s even without Valentine’s Day 💘 and all the half-term camps and activities!

Here’s your rundown…

 

Time to Talk Day – End Stigma Surrey 

 

Time to Talk Day is the nation’s biggest mental health conversation. Hosted by End Stigma Surrey on Thursday,  2nd February, there’ll be mental health conversations, support, signposting and much more (including FREE refreshments).

– Meet people with lived experience of mental health challenges
– Find out more about local services and support
– Get to know what’s available in your local community

The event at Epsom Library, Learning Centre is taking place 4.30-6.30pm. There are also events as below:

10am – 12.00pm at St Saviour’s Sunbury 
1.30pm-3.30pm at Stanwell Foodbank

Girlguiding Epsom Division – fundraiser

On Saturday, February 4th (7.30pm-10pm), support the Girlguiding Epsom Division at their Quiz Night to raise money for their upcoming trip to Iceland.

Treks and Trails at Godstone Farm

Treks and Trails at Godstone Farm is a fun play-based activity focused on a different book each week on a Monday (during term-time). The dates for February are the 6th, 20th and 27th (11.00-11.45am). Kids can explore sensory play, get creative and have fun with messy play.

Stories are a mix of traditional and newer titles and include popular stories such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Lost, Bear Snores On and The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Epsom & Ewell Pandas

Epsom & Ewell Pandas is a group that offers free support to anyone struggling with their perinatal mental health.
They run a support group that meets at All Things Nice in Ewell Village, on the 1st Monday of every month 10-11am.

The next one will be on Monday, 6th February.

Home Start Epsom, Ewell and Banstead – Young Mums Coffee Group 

Home Start Epsom, Ewell and Banstead is holding a Young Mums Coffee Group on Wednesday, 8th February (1pm-2.30pm) at Epsom Family Centre. Aimed at mums aged 23 under, it’s a chance to meet like-minded mums for a coffee and chat whilst little ones play.

The Dad Chats 

The Modern Fatherhood Club is a unique, immersive space for fathers to connect and build community.

Every 2nd Thursday of the month, Aidan, father of two and founder of The Modern Fatherhood Club, hosts a dad chat (8:15pm-9.30pm) at the Rising Sun Pub, Heathcote Road Epsom. The next one is on Thursday, February 9th.

Bourne Hall Kids Club – Great Victorian: Florence Nightingale and her work in
nursing and health reforms

Florence Nightingale will visit Ewell on Saturday, 11th February (1pm to 2.30pm) after returning from her
nursing duties in the Crimea.

Meet her and discover her life story; hear about her famous lamp-carrying while at the Scutari Hospital and her later campaigns for nursing and health reforms in England. See the uniforms that Florence and her nurses wore. Hear about the difficult conditions that the nurses found themselves in. Find out how and why nurses were recruited and what the offences were that sent some home. Do you have what it takes to be one of Nightingale’s nurses? Learn about the battles, poor living conditions and harsh weather which caused so many soldiers to be wounded and fall ill under the care of Florence and her team — see what treatments they would have got. Try out some of their nursing methods and decide if you would have liked to take her medicine!

Laird Academy – Peter Pan 

The students from Laird Academy are putting on what promises to be a fantastic show. Catch their performance of Peter Pan at the Adrian Mann Theatre, Nescot on Saturday, February 11th (there’s a 3pm and 6.30pm showing).

Family fun at Bourne Hall this half-term (and beyond) 

From February half-term (11th February) until 31st March, families will be able to go undercover and test their detective skills at Bourne Hall Museum, Ewell as part of the national Montgomery Bonbon: Museum Mystery Trail, organised by Walker Books and Kids in Museums. The exciting new trail (FREE) celebrates the release of the brilliantly funny new children’s book Montgomery Bonbon: Murder at the Museum written by comedian Alasdair Beckett-King, with illustrations by Claire Powell.

Over 50 museums across the UK will be taking part and encouraging families to explore their local museum. Grab an activity sheet at Bourne Hall Museum and test out your detective skills, solve puzzles and have fun! Remember to pick up a free moustache bookmark to get in the mystery-solving mindset!

Look Good Feel Better UK


Look Good Feel Better UK helps people face Cancer with confidence and runs workshops and classes across the UK as well as virtually.

Try-Sport Junior Camp 

Ebbisham Sports Club’s  popular Try-Sport Junior Camp is back and will run on Monday, 13th February from 9.00am-3.30pm.

Try-Sport Junior Camps are an ideal introduction to a variety of different sports for children aged 7-14 years old. They are an enjoyable way for children to start playing sport and feature coaching, team games and social activities.

Cost – Members: £29 / Non-Members: £31

NEW: 10% sibling discount will be applied to one child’s booking when two siblings are booked.

Roll With IT Football is running two February Half-term camps (football & mini rolls multi activity camps) on Monday, February 13th and Tuesday, February 14th.

Football development camp

RWI football development camps are delivered every holiday and half term period at the Greville School in Ashtead, and are a great way for your child to develop their footballing skills.

Mini rolls 

Mini Rolls multi activity camps are designed around RWI’s multi-sport curriculum for children between 4-7 years old and are delivered every holiday and half term period at the Greville School in Ashtead. They are a great way for your child to develop their FUNdamental movement skills.

Merland Rise Church – Valentine’s Market 

Merland Rise Church will be running its popular Valentine’s Market on Monday, 13th February (11.30am-2.30pm).

Stagecoach Performing Arts Epsom – Half term workshop

Bourne Hall Kids Club – Cave painting


Wednesday, 15th February (11am-12pm & 2pm-3pm – sessions are identical). * This is now full and an additional one has been added on Tuesday, 14th February (11am to 12pm).*

In the deep time of prehistory, early men crawled down into the darkest caves and used light from primitive candles to paint pictures of themselves and the animals they hunted. They left behind a vivid record of their way of life and some clues of what they believed in. Discover how and why these paintings were created.

Then by flickering light try to create your own cave painting in Bourne Hall Museum’s very own ‘caves’.

Cash in the Wardrobe is launching on Saturday, 18th February (9am – 3pm) at Bourne Hall Ewell. This event is for anyone wanting to sell pre-loved, second hand, vintage or even new clothes from their wardrobe.

The event will be every third Saturday of the month going forward.

Stalls cost just £12 and will include a table and a clothes rail which will be already set up on arrival for you.

A-Plan Insurance is hosting a charity dog photoshoot on Thursday, 23rd February (10am–2pm) to raise money for Epsom Canine Rescue.

Have you ever wanted to take your dog to get a professional photoshoot? Well get involved in the charity doggy photoshoot day at the A-Plan Insurance Epsom branch 34-35 Upper high street KT174GJ. They have booked a local photographer to take pictures of your pooches to raise money for the Epsom Canine Rescue.

The Mayor of Epsom & Ewell’s Rainbow charity appeal 

The Mayor’s next charity fundraising event is an evening of music, storytelling, illusion and magic at The Adrian Mann Theatre, Nescot, Epsom on Friday, 24th February (7.30pm – 9.40pm).

Opening The Mayor of Epsom & Ewell’s charity fundraising event is Surrey-based music duo, Dragonfly Sky. Singer songwriters in their own right, they also perform covers of well known classics. The evening will have a short interval for refreshments at the cash bar before the main act of the night, magician David Alnwick. David has performed to sell out audiences at The Edinburgh Fringe and around the country. A magician and show like no other. An event not to be missed.

There will also be an exciting raffle with all profits from the evening’s event going to the Mayor’s chosen charities.

Children’s Author Visit at Stoneleigh Library 

Come and meet M.A Bennett, author of the gripping series of “Butterfly Club” adventure books at Stoneleigh Community Library on Saturday, 25th February (2pm to 4pm) as a guest of the “Beyond the Book” young reader’s panel.

The first part of her visit will be held in the Community Room from 2pm to 3pm. She will be talking to the book club members about how she became a writer and what inspired her to write. This will also be an opportunity to hear some exclusive information about her latest book, The Mona Lisa Mystery, due to be published in April.

Marina’s books will be available to purchase at this event. From 3pm to 4pm she will be in the main library, available to sign copies of her books and have an individual chat with the children.

Makers Market @ The Horton

The Dad Walks 

One the last Sunday of every month there’s The Modern Fatherhood Dad Walk. Starting at 10:00am (and lasting approximately 45-60 minutes), the walks are for new dads, experienced dads; any stage dad. They’re a chance to get out the house and get a breather.

The next one is on Sunday, 26th February (meet outside the Tea Hut, Epsom Downs).

The Horton Bar will be open the second Friday of every month for Bar Night (free entry). Its atmospheric fully-licensed bar has a great vibe for friends or colleagues who love to chat with great background music and no TV. Join the Surrey Hills Hike (sponsored walk) on Sunday, March 12th. The hike starts and finishes at The Children’s Trust, Tadworth and all proceeds will help raise vital funds for children with brain injury.
