It was an absolute pleasure attending this session which featured Cardboard Carousel, Noah Fenton, Dragonfly Sky and Searching for Autumn. With powerful voices and intricate guitar playing, they put on a fantastic performance to a packed-out crowd at The Horton, Epsom.  During the performance, Amy from Dragonfly Sky mentioned that she felt that given the venue, this was a special session for her in the recently converted Horton Chapel. In this, I would have to agree. The sympathetically renovated Grade II-listed building that is now home to The Horton Arts and Heritage venue is the only original publicly accessible building remaining within Epsom’s historic 1000-acre psychiatric hospital site. One of the chapel’s former roles along with being a place of worship, was a music therapy centre.

In such an iconic venue, with a carefully selected performer lineup playing their hearts out on the stage, you couldn’t help but feel this was not just another gig. The energy that all artists delivered under the lit-up arches was infectious. Their blisteringly fast, intricate fingerwork on guitars was impressive as was the beauty of their songs. Being very much into the arts and music scene but often having to go into London to ‘get my hit’, I feel very lucky to have The Horton on my doorstep; I will certainly be returning to the next DragonFly Sky session on Friday 22nd September.

The Horton has some fantastic evening events coming up, however, given its the holidays, here are some specifically for Tweens and Teens.
