DINING IN IN WITH TIFFINWALLI CIC – EPSOM, A TASTE OF SRI LANKA…

The kids are back at school, still so many of us are working from home, there is no social calendar (yet!) so what better to do than have some homemade authentic dishes by a local business on the directory inspired by Sri Lankan, South or South East Asian home cooked food.

The lovely Manahara Epton is the genius behind the amazing tastes at Tiffin Walli CIC Epsom Branch.  TiffinWalli CIC is a social enterprise, the idea being that each diner has a “real authentic food experience”. The food is freshly prepared on delivery day using “fresh and wholesome ingredients” and the meal is prepared by local people who are passionate about the food they are creating– what an amazing idea. As a registered nutritionist with a passion for cooking since a young age Manahara has excelled at preparing the TiffinWalli meals, which not only taste amazingly fresh but also still feel healthy.

The delivery service can offer two types of packaging – wrapped parcels suitable for home freezing and oven cooking or a microwaveable container that is suitable for freezing too. Anyway onto the food….

TiffinWalli change their menu weekly and tasty options for the week included:

  • Chicken Curry – Sri Lankan Style in a rich creamy sauce
  • Lamb Curry – with Roasted Spices
  • Green Fish Curry- Sri Lankan Style
  • Keralan Coconut Curry
  • Sweet Potato, Chickpea and Spinach served with Carrot and Mango Salad

All of these dishes are served with either Pilau Rice or 2 Chapati’s and a choice of side of either Dahl Curry, Mooli Curry or Pumpkin curry.

Additional specials on the menu included Biriyani, Fish or Vegetable cutlets and pudding – Pitashio & Rose Almond Semolina Cake…yum!.

From the menu we opted for a portion of the Chicken Curry, Lamb Curry, Rice and Chapati’s with a side of Dahl and Pumpkin Curry – it was a hard choice as everything sounded lovely!   We actually planned to have the meal but the amazing aroma got the better of us and was eaten for late lunch.  We were not disappointed, the food tasted just as good as it smelt, the meat so succulent and the sauce was amazing together with the Chapati’s.   I absolutely love Lamb but don’t often cook it (as I’m the only one in the house keen) so for me it was a real treat.

We also hadn’t tried Pumpkin Curry before, in fact my husband had never tried Pumpkin at all nor did he ever plan to (he is a fussy eater) but yet again he loved it and ate mine too – how rude! Both meals were thoroughly enjoyed and didn’t last long on the plate and I may have eaten both portions of the cake to myself!!!

This weeks menu looks to be just as delicious and includes Butter Chicken, Prawn Stir Fry and an Cashew and Asparagus Curry, it’s really simple to make an order for Saturday delivery all you need to do is call  07882 551 332 to make your order.
