POST UPDATE: Cranial Osteopathy is currently not being offered at The BodyFix Clinic but do visit the website for other services including chiropody, osteopathy, sports massage and acupuncture and more

My son Elliott was born a year ago at St Helier. After being induced for two days Elliott was born. The birth was as straightforward as childbirth can be however Elliott suffered from shoulder dystocia which is where the anterior shoulder gets caught above the mothers pubic bone.  Fast forward a year later and Elliott has recently been in hospital being treated for a viral induced wheeze. His chest area has always been a weak area with him suffering from bronchiolitis at 5 months and suffering from subsequent chest infections as a result.  With these factors in mind I visited the BodyFix Clinic in Stoneleigh who offer a range of complimentary therapies including cranial-osteopathy for babies and children.

Traditional methods of osteopathy are based upon the principle that the structure of the body and its functions are closely related so if the structure isn’t balanced or in alignment the function of the body and its organs will be affected.  Cranial osteopathy is a gentle and safe treatment which is ideally suited to babies and children. The practitioner applies very gentle touch to the cranial bones and the sacrum bone. Through doing so any tension or restriction is released and balance is restored.

The Treatment
Giulia took myself and Elliott into her lovely and calming treatment room where she asked a range of thorough questions regarding my pregnancy with Elliott and the birth. This information is vital as it gave Giulia an understanding of any underlying issues which could be affecting Elliott as a result of the birth. After a very thorough consultation Giulia then worked on Elliot’s shoulders and the base of his cranium.
This was the main focus of the treatment as she could feel upper body tightness which in her expert opinion is due to the shoulder dystocia which occurred during birth.

As a result of this Giulia explained that Elliott also had tension in the neck muscles which restricts his diaphragm which in turn is restricting his breathing.

I was amazed at her findings as it all married up with Elliott’s shoulder dystocia and demonstrated how it is affecting his chest and respiratory system which is his weak area.  Immediately after Elliott’s treatment his breathing was clearer and deeper, he was relaxed and slept so well that evening. I was amazed!
Giulia has a lovely rapport with both parent and baby and this was reflected in the treatment.
