CINEMA CLUB @ THE HORTON #REVIEW…
Posted by Hayley Boland on 12 May 2023
As a first time mum of a gorgeous 9 month old I have started to get bored of going to the same cafes and soft plays so I was really excited when I got the opportunity to go to the bring your baby film club at The Horton Epsom. This month’s showing was The Devil Wears Prada, a film I am ashamed to say I haven’t seen so this made it even more appealing.
Upon arrival I was blown away by the building, a stunningly renovated Grade II-listed former Chapel. The Horton is a cultural venue in Epsom which has been open since April 2022 which offers atmospheric and welcoming spaces for live performance, events, exhibitions, workshops or simply a coffee with friends.
Automatic doors throughout the building made it easy for me to navigate with a buggy and baggage.
The performance space is large and welcoming. Tables and chairs were laid out ready for us but we were greeted by Issy who told us to move whatever we needed to be comfortable. I grabbed a cuppa from the coffee shop which also serves a variety of cakes and a vast lunch selection. There is also a fully stocked bar for those tempted for a tipple when child free.
Once settled down the film started, luckily my little one was well behaved and mesmerised by the big screen however no one raised eyebrows or judged when she did let out the occasional scream, the beauty of being surrounded by other mums and babies!
There was an interval 50 minutes in, which gave a welcome comfort break for mums to refuel on caffeine and sugar. A large spotlessly clean disabled toilet with baby change made it easy to change Ava.
Whilst watching the second half of the film a highchair was kindly bought in from the café so I could feed Ava her lunch and she then promptly fell asleep in the cosy dark atmosphere. It was lovely couple of hours to relax and to catch up with other mums for a coffee after the film.
Films coming up @ The Horton include:

Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast South Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped – and no one today knows why. From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes “Moana,” a sweeping, CG-animated adventure about a spirited teenager who sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and fulfil her ancestors’ unfinished quest. During her journey, she meets the once-mighty demi-god Maui, and together, they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous fiery creatures and impossible odds.
For this child friendly screening The Horton are providing mats and space for little ones to move around and dance. Adults can feel free to bring teas and coffees into the screening space, with a 10 minute interval in the middle of the film.
