CHILD PHYSIOTHERAPY @ THE BODYFIX CLINIC #REVIEW…
Posted by Kat Heath on 02 Nov 2021
On Saturday Morning I had the pleasure of taking my 7 year old Harry to the Body Fix Clinic in Stoneleigh to their new Childrens Physiotherapy clinic which runs on Wednesdays and Saturdays with the lovely Anusha.
Anusha who has been a fully qualified physiotherapist for 15 years, specialises in paediatric physiotherapy and has worked at various places including the Cromwell Hospital in Kensington and has even had her own private clinic before joining BodyFix earlier last month, therefore I knew Harry was in extremely safe hands.
As soon as we arrived at BodyFix we were greeted by Anusha who instantly made Harry feel at ease.
As a mother of two Anusha has a very reassuring approach and Harry felt comfortable answering all her questions relating to his general well-being during his consultation.
The consultation is very thorough and Anusha asks various questions to help pin point any areas of concern.
Harry struggles with shoulder pain which does get worse when he’s tired. Anusha asked me questions in regards to Harry’s various developmental milestones and even as far back as how the birth was as fetal positioning can have a long lasting effect on our physiological development and health.
After discussing Harry’s shoulder pain and general health Anusha examined Harry’s posture by getting him to carry out various balancing exercises. She also asked him to lie on the couch and carry out various stretches to see if there is any shortness in muscle tone. The examination is very thorough and intrinsic in assessing what areas the client needs working on.
Once the examination is complete Anusha creates some fun activities and exercises which are completely tailored to children and again gives her an in-depth understanding of what areas of the body need work.
Harry was given exercises such as balancing on one leg whilst leaning down to put matching bean bags into matching coloured hoops and animal crawling on all fours to help aid core stability and strength.
As the session came to an end Anusha rounded up with her findings. Harry has a weak core meaning his lower back is strained and this is causing shortness in his hamstring muscles as well as muscle fatigue in his shoulders.
Through regular visits to Anusha and carrying out core strengthening exercises at home Harry’s core will become strong and his posture will improve over time. Meaning he will have less back problems in the future once fully developed.
Anusha can help with an array of children’s physio issues including:
- Tummy Time: Helping babies who have not had much/any tummy time which is fundamental to helping them reach developmental milestones.
- Injuries and recovery: Helping children who have had sports injuries or have been involved in any accidents.
- Developmental Abnormalities: Helping children who may have issues such as turned in feet or shoulder displacement.
And so much more.
Harry really enjoyed the session and can’t wait to visit again!
