On the 18th May Ollie would have been 9 and this July will mark 5 years since he died. On the the 17th May it would have been the 5th Super Hero walk, I actually can’t believe it’s 5 years since the first one. I remember the first one clearly (almost like it was yesterday) I was part of the team organising the event and also fundraising for children’s cancer charity Momentum.  Ollie was one of the reasons I started working with Momentum. Terri, Ollies mum had the idea for the event as she wanted to do something to give back to charities that supported them and try to help fund research to stop other families losing their children to cancer.

Now due to COVID19 they have had to cancel the annual Superhero festival. This is a massive blow and comes at a time when many families with children fighting cancer need the support of charities like Momentum and Ollie’s star (CCLG) more than ever.

Now instead of gathering together to fundraise Terri has come up with the idea of dressing up as a superhero for your daily walk in the week of 17th May and Walk Like a Superhero.

Terri says:

“Superheroes are more than the marvel comic heroes. They are our nurses, paramedics, carers, refuse collectors, pharmacists, delivery drivers, porters, shop assistants, doctors and many more.”

You can set up your own fundraiser here and share with family and friends asking them to support children’s cancer research and families of children with life limiting conditions. Those who raise funds will be entered into a prize draw for some great prizes! You can post your photos to the Ollies star page and share the fun!

Follow Ollies Star on Facebook, find out more about the research here and also more about Momentum here.

What Superhero will you be?
