BAKING BREAD WITH EPSOM BAKEHOUSE

I first met Rhiannon in 2015, at a Christmas Market, at a school in Ewell. Rhiannon had recently completed a home-baking business course and had just set up The Epsom Bakehouse – a way in which she could leave her daytime job, whilst doing something that she loved doing.

Rhiannon started selling her products at the Epsom Marketplace and due to the success of her stall, she was invited to have a regular stall. The market place allowed her to grow her business and her network (especially as she was a newcomer to Epsom). 6 months after starting her business, she started teaching classes, and that was when all the fun began.

Rhiannon, who seems most comfortable in her beautiful kitchen, invited me into her classroom space – a bright, beautiful and airy kitchen (even on a gloomy Autumn morning). Her classes are small; to allow for a lot of hands on experience, individual attention, and to allow for questions to be asked. Course attendees are also treated to a light lunch, recipe booklet and an Epsom Bakehouse scraper.

Rhiannon is a fantastic teacher – she was welcoming and encouraging. Baking with her was an absolute delight. I learnt about different breads and her baking classes – Introduction to Bread Making, Sourdough Bread Making, Introduction to Italian Breads, Christmas Baking, Artisan Bread Making, and Sweet Breads. The last two are new classes for 2020, and they sound so exciting.

In the 2 hours that I spent with Rhiannon, I got to make some delicious bread rolls. I was so surprised how easy they were to make and how delicious they tasted.

I also got to help Rhiannon make some of the Christmas breads – cinnamon rolls and a beautiful cheese board centrepiece. The cheese star was in the oven when I left, but Rhiannon very kindly gave me a delicious bag of goodies to take home with me.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Rhiannon is now also trained to teach people how to set up their own home baking companies, she also does corporate or private bread making courses for groups, and has online bread making courses (due to her growing social media community).

While building her business, Rhiannon was also building her beautiful family. As well as being a successful business woman, she is also mum to two adorable little girls. Working her business around her family.
