When I decided to run a fundraiser for Sands as part of Baby Loss Awareness Week, I was surprised at the amount of people who have been personally affected or know of someone who has been affected, yet it’s a topic which remains one of the most difficult things to talk about.

The main objectives of Baby Loss Awareness Week are:

  • Remembering and acknowledging the loss of a baby.
  • Raising Awareness
  • Driving Change
  • Funding research

Having experienced Baby Loss on a personal level and supporting families professionally I felt I wanted to do something to raise funds towards this very important cause.

Lots of charities have been affected this year but experiencing such a painful loss without seeing those you love or being able to obtain the support you need is something a lot of us cannot imagine.

Sands main aim is to reduce the amount of babies dying, through education and research.
Devastatingly, every 90 minutes a baby dies in the UK. Sands also fundraises to fund the support they can offer families such as:

  • Bereavement Support
  • Memory Boxes
  • A National Helpline
  • Local support groups via the Mobile App Funding Medical Research

If you are experiencing a bereavement or suffering from grief due to baby loss call the Sands Helpline: 0808 164 3332, visit the website – or simply download the Sands App.

Lots of local businesses have kindly come forward to donate some amazing prizes to raise awareness and funds for Sands as part of Baby Loss Awareness Week, you can find out more about the prizes and how to enter here.

I am so grateful for all their support and to everyone who has donated and shared this fundraiser.

This has been a learning journey for myself as I have decided to embark on extra training to support families through pregnancy loss and the death of a baby.

I hope you will join me this Thursday in the global “ Wave of Light” where we light a candle at 7pm to remember all those babies gone but never forgotten.
