A DREAM FAMILY HOME WITH DAULEY DESIGN
Posted by Kat Heath on 12 Jan 2020
It’s a cold winter morning and we (Dee and I) have been invited into the warm and beautiful home of Interior designer; Alexandria Dauley (aka Alex), founder of Dauley Design. Alex moved into her stunning 1920s Surrey family home after the completion of its full renovation late last year, and I can say it is beyond spectacular.
Alex said “I took the worst house on the street, totally gutted it and turned it into a dream home”. Previous to the 8 month renovation, Alex explained the house hadn’t been decorated in over 40 years, it was a complete challenge which has most certainly paid off. As we enter Alex’s beautiful home there is an immediate sense of warmth and restfulness which makes you feel immediately at home!
We enter the front room which has a very sophisticated yet relaxing feel to the room. The neutral colour palette and textured furnishings such as the velveteen sofa allow you to feel encapsulated in luxurious tranquility. Alex explains that despite the ‘grown up’ feel to the room it is not out of bounds to her two children. Which is so important when creating your dream family home, it should be a home for all to enjoy. The ceilings have been lowered to create a ‘cosy’ atmosphere and bespoke cabinets, designed by Alex herself display beautiful accessories which complement this sumptuous front room.
Moving through the home Alex leads us through the hall way which has a window replacing one of the walls to encourage natural light, in front of us is the most beautiful open plan kitchen, diner and relaxing sitting area. Your eye draws round the room which is full of natural light and although simple in design , each component of the room has been carefully considered. From the wipeable and easy to clean work surfaces to the ‘zonal’ lighting, each part of this stunning kitchen is perfect yet welcoming and above all liveable.
The bespoke storage even contains a desk area which folds up, meaning that Alex’s daughters can do their homework without just being confined to their bedrooms.
Alex believes storage is an essential part of designing a family home and explains “you can never have too much storage and this should be factored in at the beginning of the design process”. The storage throughout the home has certainly been carefully thought out and allows for the home to look inviting and tidy.
Moving upstairs each room has been tailored to each person using it. The girls rooms have been designed to grow with them and their evolving tastes. Bold colours such as petrol blue and mustard compliment the girl’s rooms and again storage is key.
Accessories are essential for making the space homely and Alex explains that you don’t have to spend a fortune to adorn your home and advocates places such as Homesense and Ikea for great pieces for your space.
The bathroom automatically transported me to being in a luxurious spa in Belgravia. Marble bathroom furniture combined with brass fittings create a sumptuous and relaxing atmosphere even when spending a penny I felt like I was on a spa break he he.
Conclusion of this visit was both Dee and I wanted to move in (immediately!) as we both felt at peace and at home!
