A CHRISTMASSY EVENING @ THE DERBY ARMS

What better way to spend a Tuesday evening than sampling the delights of the new Christmas menu at The Derby Arms on the beautiful Epsom Downs. From the moment we walked in the door, the warmth of the log burning fire accompanied by the aroma of Christmas with cinnamon spice in the air was the perfect welcome.
This very popular pub has had a freshen up over the past few months with a new lick of paint and new wooden floors throughout the restaurant area – it has a lovely cosy feel and the staff as always are very welcoming and friendly. Seated at a festively decorated table with a Christmas cracker or two we were offered the pubs signature Christmas cocktail “Sipsmith Spiced Bramble Royale” – Sipsmiths spiced bramble gin topped with Prosecco – I love Prosecco and with the added spice it was so nice I had more than one! There are six other sparkly Christmas drinks on offer – Spiced Mohito, Festive Pornstar Martini, Festive Espresso Martini, Mulled Wine, Mulled Cider and well as Freixenet Prosecco / Sparking Rose.
There are three dinner options, the “Three course Classic Festive Menu”, “Four course Indulgent Menu” and a “Five course Extra Special Festive Menu” – all offering mouth-watering options for every taste bud. We went for the “Three course Classic Festive Menu” – I can barely manage three courses let alone five!
As a starter we chose the Roasted Tomato Soup topped with crispy vegetables and pesto, served with ciabatta and butter and the Seared Scallops served with crisp pancetta and minted pea purée, accompanied with another cocktail!
For the main course we chose the Maple Port Belly and Pig Cheek on Dijon chive mash, cavolo nero, crisp prosciutto and a red wine & sage jus and the 8oz Rump steak served with twice-cooked chunky chips, roasted mushroom, confit tomato and parsley butter – throughout we were looked after attentively by the lovely waiter Nathan who really is an asset to the pub – he has served us many times and service is always with a smile and a chat and a cuddle if you ask for one ha ha 🙂
As the last round we opted for the Christmas pudding filled with vine fruits, almonds and rum, served with brandy sauce and the Caramel Crème Brûlée served with home-baked sultana & oatmeal biscuits (the biscuits were amazingly soft and fresh).
