A Bloomin Lovely Visit to Mayfield Lavender Farm #REVIEW…

Posted by Francesca De Franco on 05 Jul 2025

As a family, we love a visit to Mayfield Lavender Farm. Last week I had the opportunity to return for Epsom and Ewell Families and took my eldest daughter along for a treat (she recently finished her GCSEs).

Mayfield Lavender Farm

The 25-acre Mayfield Lavender Farm, which is on one of the original Victorian lavender fields in Banstead, opened to the public in 2008. It is a family-run business and the only certified organic lavender farm in the UK.

We went midweek to avoid the crowds as weekends tend to get busy. The first field is hitting its peak, and the back field looks like it will in a week or two (this is quite a bit earlier than usual due to the weather, so the season may end sooner than normal).

What we did at Mayfield Lavender Farm

First things, first, we took a lovely stroll through the field, simply taking it in and appreciating the beautiful sight and smells. It is looking glorious right now. The bees were loving it too (there are lots of bees, but they don’t bother you at all). Then we took a trip on Looby Lou, the cute tractor train, which lets you see the lavender from a different perspective and is also perfect for any tired little feet!

A visit would not be complete without taking time out for some lovely photos. You can get some great shots from anywhere on the farm, but there are some perfect iconic photo opportunities to be had, including the famous red telephone box, ‘Fergie’ the tractor, and, my favourite, the heart-shaped Mayfield Lavender bench. On our visit, the free, bee-themed treasure trail was proving a hit. There is also a bug hunt, which, had we been there with the rest of the clan, we’d have done, as it has become quite a tradition/competition! Both activities result in a little reward at the end.

After we had finished our beautiful meandering and photography, it was time to head to the main café for some refreshments.

What we ate and drank

There are plenty of things on offer, such as salads, sandwiches, panini, cakes and lots of lavender-infused treats. I went for a slightly unconventional but delicious onion bhaji with mango chutney and mint yoghurt dressing sandwich, and my daughter went for a lavender scone with clotted cream and jam (a perennial favourite). It was a hot day on our visit, so I opted for a classic still lavender lemonade, which was beautifully refreshing, and Sofia tried their guest lavender punch mocktail, which she described as ‘amazeballs’!

A bit of shopping at Mayfield Lavender

Then it was time to peruse the gift shop, where there are lots of gorgeous lavender-scented and infused goodies. We came away with lavender lemonade, smellies and even lavender chutney and chocolate. We also (very conveniently) managed to get a gift for grandma, who was coming to stay with us the same evening!

Booking in advance

Online, advanced booking is cheaper than buying tickets on the day. Bookings can be made here. I’d recommend not leaving it until mid-August for your visit, as the season is likely to be shorter than usual due to the hot weather.

Mayfield lavender never loses its appeal, and we love going back. It is wonderful to know that a replanting programme is underway, so that we can continue enjoying it in the years ahead.
