⭐️ Tell us a bit about you and your business?

I have 2 businesses – The Ultimate Voice – Vocal & Personal Coaching and The Heart & Soul Choir, although they both fit under the Voice umbrella very naturally.

Before having children, I was all suited and booted as Head of Education and Training for Norther Europe for an IT Company by day and a very busy jazz singer by night!

The Ultimate Voice started as a little music group for pre-schoolers called Pipsqueaks (bought by Katie Taborn who worked for me at the time!) which I set up when I left grown-up work to have our first child 21 years ago and it was very popular and big fun growing from 2 classes a week to around 10 a week and much more.

Whilst running these classes, I trained as a Vocal Coach AND as a Personal & Professional Development Coach for 2 years and had twins … not much going on really.

I then sold Pipsqueaks to concentrate on growing my a Vocal Coaching and Personal & Professional Development business, set up a choir by accident (!) and put everything under the name The Ultimate Voice.

⭐️ What’s changed for your business since the outbreak of Covid-19?

As soon as there was a sniff of lockdown, I took both businesses online, so my team and I (I have 2 Vocal Coaches who work for me) have moved all our pupils to online singing lessons and my 2 Choirs have merged to become a Zoom choir, too. We have lost some pupils and some choir members, which has been disappointing, but my feeling is that I built it up once, I can do so again! That’s all I can do.

⭐️ What are you looking forward to when lock down is over?

Hugging my choir members again and seeing my pupils back in my beautiful Studio, where they belong!!

⭐️ Lastly what’s your positive message to help others through this?

Find a way – because you can! I have seen so many small business thrive in this time, and it’s because they have thought laterally about how they can bring their goods or services to market, and it’s been incredible. There’s nothing so resourceful as a self-employed small business owner … and/or a Mum!
