What’s the one thing guaranteed to make a day out more thrilling for your little (or big) ones? I know for my kids it’s definitely splashing in water on a hot sunny day!   So I’ve done my research and found some outside areas to share with you all that offer splash and pool excitement, best of all bar a few exceptions (the lidos) these are usually free! So pack up the suncream and a picnic in the holidays or the coming weekends and prepare for a day of fun in the sun!

Sir Joseph Hood Memorial – Motspur Park

A short hop from Worcester Park, Sir Joseph Hood has a splash pool open in the summer months and a playground, along with crazy golf & even a soft play during the week – should the weather not be living up to expectations! The paddling pool is open from 21st July – 2nd September from 10 until 5pm and parking is free.

Cheam Park – Cheam

Ok so there isn’t a paddling pool but there is a huuuuuge sandpit to greet you at this popular hangout – the onsite Cheam Park Cafe arrived in 2016 and offers treats, drinks and plentiful pre-school classes. The playground has a variety of equipment, suitable for all ages and parking is free – you can walk straight through to Nonsuch Park should you fancy a change of scenery.

Priory Park – Reigate

Refurbished in 2017, the sand here has been replaced by wet pour rubber flooring and there are new jets spraying water at different heights, pressures and patterns. There is also a huge Pirate Ship, a lake, woodland and various sports facilities like tennis courts and a skate park.

Hampton Pool – Hampton

An old favourite – and open 365 days a year for the brave – this heated lido also has a large grass area which is perfect for catching some rays. It does get extremely busy on sunny days so pack a picnic and get there early! Chargeable.

Morden Park – Morden

Hidden slightly off the beaten track adjacent to Morden Park House this quiet and secluded pool, there’s also a playground & a trim trail.

Frensham Ponds – Farnham

This natural lake and sandy beach is just down the A3 and allows swimming in certain areas from May onwards, take a bucket and spade to build some sandcastles and arrive early as this is another which gets busy in summer!

Guildford Lido – Guildford

Open all year round on the outskirts of Guildford, there is a children’s splash pool, 3 slides and a large heated pool – the Mexican food shack is open on days when temperatures hit 21c or over – be aware that otherwise the food options are very limited. Chargeable.

Wimbledon Park and Tamworth Recreation Ground

An impressive SIX pools and two squirting, sprinkling play areas make this a real treat.

King Georges – Lower Morden

Open in the summer holidays from 10-6 there are two pools close to the playground, the entrance is on Tudor Drive – be aware there is limited free parking onsite which gets full rather quickly.
