The Festive season and any holiday really should be filled with fun and games and whilst there is going to be lots of family time over the festive period – what better time is there to get the family board and card games out?!

However, if like myself you haven’t ventured into the depths of your loft to retrieve the board games then fear not, we have devised a list of family favourites (old and new) thanks to our community in Epsom and Ewell Families Facebook Group.  We hope the list inspires you for some quality family time over the next few weeks.

If ordering online you may not get these delivered in time for Christmas Day but do make Amazon Prime your friend or a quick pop to Argos in Sainsbury in Kiln Lane Epsom may save the day!

Here goes:

The Wheel
Based off of the BBC show, this board game places you as the contestant. Can you answer all the questions? Will you make it to victory? Give it a spin! Includes the wheel, contestant spinner board, spinner arrow, 266 x category question cards, 39 x end game question cards and a rules sheet.

The Hotel
Build luxury hotels all around the world and make your opponent’s pay to stay. The more you build the richer you get. Will you own it all or lose a fortune?

The Traitors
Experience The Traitors Board Game with family and friends! Inspired by favourite elements of the hit TV show, Faithfuls and Traitor alike must go on missions to earn gold for the prize fund. The Traitor will play to earn the right to murder at night, and all the Faithfuls must try and banish at the Round Table.

Exploding Kittens
Exploding Kittens is a fast and immediate card game that will excite everyone: because everyone loves kittens… and explosions.  Players draw cards until someone stumbles upon the dreaded Exploding Kitten card – at which point that someone explodes and is eliminated from the game, unless they have a Defuse card to prevent the explosion.

The Sock Game

Cards Against Humanity (Family Version)
This is somewhat already a cult classic, however the original version is definitely not suitable for young family members therefore due to its popularity, the creator, Max Temkin decided to create a family friendly version.
Players simply fill in blank statements using the cards they are dealt.

5 Second Rule
Similar to Tension (info below), The 5 Second Rule game is where the players have to name 3 items (such as food that goes with roast beef) in 5 seconds.
Suitable for the whole family!



Launched in 1935, Monopoly is still a firm family favourite in my household and many others!

Created in 2006, Banagram has become a favourite amongst many families.
Similar to Scrabble, Banagram is a word game.

Launched in 1992, Tension has proven to be a favourite certainly amongst my family and friends.

400 topics make this a perfect thinking game for both children and adults
Unique score slider that makes marking down the shout-outs so easy
From ’10 Ice Cream Flavours’ to ’10 Ed Sheeran songs’.. sounds simple but you have to get the exact 10 on the card
Call out as many examples as you can and don’t give up until the timer runs out.

Very funny (and tense: hence the name)

This game has been sold to over 2 million families since its launch in 1992 (an average of 65000 games a year!)

Fun play experience – In Labyrinth, Ravensburger’s hugely popular family board game for boys and girls, you have to find the shortest route through the Labyrinth to win The game is for 2-4 players aged 7 and up, and the aim is to reach all your treasures and targets as you move through the Labyrinth.
